Type of fuse - no access to bus at the mo.

  1. Hi all,

    First, it's a 1979 US Westy 2.0L FI.

This is a really simple question but I'm at work so can't check it out myself: my sink pump stopped working while camping at the V Festival. OK. I'm thinking it's a fuse. Should be no problem to fix. Planning to do a few checks tonight before we leave for Bestival tomorrow and I just remembered I forgot to fix the pump.

What type of fuses are the in-line fuses on my bus? I may need to replace the 16A in-line fuse next to the fuse box, or the 2A fuse attached to the pump in a twisty fuse holder. Are they the same as ones I can buy for a household plug or are they more specific?

I just need to get some today so I can fix it tonight.

    Cheers!

    Stu

  2. If it's the fuse you need low voltage automotive type fuses, but there are several different kinds so you'll need to look. Most of mine are the same continental type as in the main fuse box, but I've a couple of glass cartridge ones as well.

Purely for quick testing purposes you could do the old aluminium foil trick round the fuse, but don't leave it like that. If it's blown it's for a reason.

There are around 6 common fuses used on in line fuse holders
if a household one fits that will be fine.

  4. I thought the fuse needed was relevant to the power of the item?

If Power = Volts x Amps then surely a fuse for 240v mains will be no use in a 12v in line fuse?

    I dont know, just curious!!
