What's the chance of saving this with a case saver type thing?

  3. If I haven't I will be surprised .

  4. Is the case ok then ?

  6. Someone has been buggering about with that before... the pick up has had some lugs welded on to it..

Case is now scrap, or technically not economical to repair...

You took the bolt out to get the case apart.

  12. IMHO cam just shows normal wear .case can be welded if you felt inclined .

  13. In my opinion the way Type 4 cams wear I would bin it :)

  14. Just in case it's possible to save sourcing a new case.... Is this the Muckygreen repair linked to by Davidoft above? Think I understand the process but might need to extend the hole in the broken bit to let the stud sit on something...
If its a write off anyway nothing to oose in trying!..

  15. You could technically drill the case all the way through, and use a long bolt and nut... drilling the hole deeper is generally a fix for stripped threads or where it's cracked and not broken. ..

While welding is an option, it would have to be a material build up well opposed to a weld the broken piece back on... in my experience the weld doesn't penetrate deep enough to take properly. .. and material building in that area could cause the case to warp or effect the centre main on the cam...

Too much damage to make a sticking plaster repair worthwhile, either weld the case, or replace it, @3901mick probably has one.

I wouldn’t reuse that cam although there is still life in it and you can very quickly spend several thousand pounds on an engine rebuild so if you don’t want to spend any money just replace the minimum and hope for the best.

  17. What's the going rate for a case then Mr 3901mick please...later CJ 2.0 l... told you might know where to get one from..

  18. Bit of a nightmare and a cautionary tale this. Good luck fellow. Think id be sourcing a second hand unit at this point and consigning any good bits to emay or the parts bin.

Any 1700, 1800 or 2.0 litre case will do but I’m reasonably sure Mick has a CJ.
