WANTED type 4 thermostat PLEASE

Hi as stated above, I am looking for a type 4 thermostat, must be in very good condition no rust and moves freely... PLEASE HELP ME!

you can buy them new for £20 from Cool air or Just Kampers. The new type just look a little different

 

Not type four thermostats you can’t
The ones with the coiled spring on the outside are for type one engines.
I wouldn’t fit one though as they fail in the flap closed position

 

Edd china fitted one to the 914 ( Type 4 engine) they did on Wheeler dealers ...and raved over it ?????????

 

You can get them new from VWH but they open up on an earlier temp ...you just have to make a slight adjustment to fit them ...it comes with an explanation diagram .

But i believe you can get them from the USA that open at the correct temp ...but they are dear ...someone on here bought one .

Got 2 type 4 ones, one failed one not

 

I mean has anyone seen one of the spring type (brazilian ones) fail? Everyone talks about "they fail closed", but do they fail?

 

Ahhh, well I imagine they will fail eventually like anything, I do believe they fail in he wrong position

 

Everyone talks of them failing closed, and while I don't dispute this, I've yet to see or hear of anyone having one fail, and whether they do fail "seized" closed, or whether the spring "pings" it open?
