Thank you! ... Bit of mild heating and cooling as well first maybe?
Soaking with 3:1? or some other whizz product??

Best stuff i found is ...good old Plus Gas spray ...let soak for a couple of days and keep applying it .....if you have to use heat make sure it's just on the nut and let it cool a little .
It's more than a ball ache of a job if the stud snaps .

OK thanks ... Looks like I'll be doing "engine stripping" after all (never thought I would!)

Well stripping for both sexes i should think ...turns out to be quite simple in the end ;)

OK! so, in the photo below, where is ok to cut if I can't shift the nut/s? ... Taking the back box off first so I can flip the thing over to get to the other fixings.[IMG]

  7. Just cut the nuts off .....

The flanges on the heat exchangers look nearly past there best ...I had to replace both of mine

That's what I started doing on the OS one but limited kit means not being able to get at the top one ...
Thinking I might be able to drill out from the back box side (?)

If you can get a ring spanner on the nut just put some muscle behind it and break the stud.

Case hardened goes through like plastercine

Now one of those I DO have ...
Feeling quite pleased with my disc cutting work on the back box, to reveal the back end of the bolts, so gotta have a go at drilling now, but will most likely end up "smacking the nuts"

Thought I read on here somewhere that heat x’ers do not have asbestos in them.

Unfortunately they do have asbestos in the H/Exchangers but only in the original ones not the repros . I had the wadding string vest type of material sent off to a company called Bradley environmental , paid 45 quid for it to be tested and it came back as being Chrysotile which is asbestos .
The collars on the concertina tube ends are asbo too , but they are easily replaced by the new rubber ones ....the wadding in the concertina tubes do not have asbo in the original ones either .
Best thing to do is to split the two halves of the casing and fillet it out ...mask water and all that , and re crimp up ......if of coarse your original ones are in good nick as they will still be way hotter than repro's .

If not F... them off .

Can you tell from the photo above whether the flange to the exhaust is going to be good enough for you?
(I won't be getting back to removal for a couple of days now probably)

Are you going to remove them anyway ? Can't really tell unless they are off ...and to see the heads that are nutted on to the Cylinder Head ,they can be loose and blowing .

I live in Derbyshire , so i am a fare way from you ....but there is a possibility i might be coming Cirencester way next weekend ...won't know till tuesday .

I'll use the possibility of that trip as an incentive to get on with it.
