Twin 40s on a 1600

  1. They came off a bus but as you say. It's a bit of a guess .

  2. Is there a guide to say what jets you should start with or do you need to get them rolling road tuned?

This is a reasonable guide and they’ll probably work but to get the best out of any carb it has to be set up for the particular engine: https://www.carbparts.eu/jetting_table

  4. Yes but I would change the exhaust to a more free flowing one and maybe a different cam. Got a vintage speed on mine and a 100 engle cam. Definitely makes a difference up hills The engine doesn't run out of power so much and much better torque.

  5. Cheers ,I'm still not sure whether I'm going to buy them or not ,the setting up seems to be a very involved affair .

  6. Once fitted and rolling roaded they are great (well on my t4 2.0) but you’ll need to be able to get them fitted and running and this maybe tricky.

Setting them up is not really involved, they’ll work with the vents and jets on that list, but as I said ANY carb will need to be set up to get the best out of it. If you buy them and can use a spanner you’ll be able to fit them and the engine will fire up but I’d be wary of buying used carbs even if they’re off a similar engine – why are they being sold?

  8. The guys bought a bigger engine complete with carbs apparently , do you have any experiences with the Chinese webers ?

Sorry, no, I have genuine Webers on my 2.0l.

Reading the various forums the Chinese clones are either complete junk of as good as originals - factory QA seems to be lacking but if they’ve been used successfully on another engine hopefully someone else has sorted any problems.

Both my sets are Italian, off an Alfa I believe. The guys on the buggy forum always slag off the Chinese ones and say they're very tricky to set up, if at all. I'd steer clear if it were me.
