Quick update before the snooker starts As usual i was a bit too keen with the grinder and should of left a bit of the inner valance to help set the new one I was able to get a bit of an idea off this cut, also credit to Zed for posting a few pics. was a real pain to line up but got there in the end. After taking a few measurements i found the near side A post had dropped a few mil and needed raised Bottom of the A posts made I'll trim these when fitting the Front and deformation panel
Made and fitted a very rear top hat (the last of the structural work ) Painted the top of the rails with bonda I welded in the captive nuts on the new floor and deformation Started to prep the rest My mate dug out this old spot welder Im trying to get working, hopefully it should speed things up a bit
Yeah mate, the spring mech was knackered so had to make a wee mod, also removed the tip of a mig welder that was being used as a fuse lol really handy for the front and deformation panel but can be very temperamental, the metal has to be super clean, prefer plug welding tbh.
Cheers mate! Was handy enough clamped in the vice using a punch, I would go for SKF not Meyle, the outer race of the Meyle bearing scraped far to easy when i was using the inner race to tap the outer in place, wasn't impressed.
Few more pictures.... front vent repair The spot welder wouldn't reach over the windscreen frame so i drilled a few holes two 3 mm and one 6 mm, self tappers in the outer plugging the middle with the arches tacked in place the step was sitting too high So i dug out the old arches Old hight compered to the new Lower front tubs repaired
Deformation panel on The passenger side roof repair Cut away the rot bonda Middle strengthener repaired Outer strengthener repaired Few other small repairs
A post lip repair, clamped a bit of tin in place to get the curve and again One of six repairs, tricky as hell both drivers side track cover holders repaired using the passenger as a template.
All outer panels in place, my friend who works in a body shop talked me into making the joins a solid weld, VERY time consuming building up the tacks to keep the warping to a minimum. Next up the cargo floor, my work for this weekend, getting close
Hello! back again.. has it really been a year?!! Still chipping away at this mammoth project but finding it hard to get the time since I started an OU engineering degree this year... Anyway pictures.. After the floor was in I test fitted the doors... seen the driver side arch was too high could even see the line I marked.. convinced someone moved it... so I kicked a few things round the garage, had a wee cry then cut the welds out again.... Picked up a set of XKS seats.. then had the body soda blasted The quarter panels I did with the DA sander. Bit of Bonda and seam sealer...
Off to the bodyshop.. Between the two of us woking nights and weekends it took about 12 weeks to get it ready for paint clocking well over 300 hours work... not for the faint hearted.
Wow, ive just looked at the start of this thread and where you are at now! You have come along way Stay on target, almost there
3mm piece of steel was emmm welded to the bottom of the slider.. coved by and inch of filler of course... I used the roller mount to keep the repair panel straight. Tacked on Cleaned up.
