So...I've checked and cleaned plugs, done valves nicely, cleaned rotor arm and dizzy cap inside, changing oil at moment... What else can/should I do for a tune up / health check?
replace your fuel filter with a nice big meyle clear plastic one. tank rust and ethanol wax is becoming a problem. Check the engine battery and clean up terminals and earth and charge it up. check the gearbox earth strap and starter solenoid connections for corrosion, clean them anyway. easy jobs but do make a difference.
I wouldn’t do that. @Day has a nice metal filter that he won’t have to touch or look at for a few years.
Helping my grandson today servicing his new hobby, a Golf mk2 1.3 . New fuel, new oil, new oil filter, new meyle plastic filter, the old one was full of gunk. new ignition parts, new battery, new coolant. Runs and sounds so much nicer, happy engine. Its a project for him to learn and enjoy in a year's time when he is old enough to drive it himself. Gearbox oil next time. Its a running project like my sons mk2 1.8 was and over the months the 1.3 will have a lot of resto and new parts.
Air filter ordered for the 1.3 as its the round donut type on this engine. Do that next time. Its going to be a great project and spend time with my grandson.
