Trouble with fitting door seals!

  1. Hi All

I bought some new (VW ones) Door seals for Drivers door, sliding door and tail gate. Previous to fitting them i had hung the doors and got my gaps right, Ok fitted Drivers door seal and i'm having a pig of a job to get the door to shut nicely, its pushed out at the bottom a little and you have to slam it to get it to shut on the rubber, i've tried adjusting the catch. It seems to be tight between door jam and the seal around the door strap bracket as if its not compressing enough? Also the tail gate with the new rubber sticks out a little at the bottom? I bought new best quality seals and they fit lovely into the channels .

Any tips advice much appreciated , thanks

  2. Pretty much standard i believe :( mine like that as well :(

  3. where did you get them from
    are they grey or black
the blak ones may need cutting
the grey ones will come good

  4. Thanks for your replies, i got them from Schofields and they are the grey ones, they were about £40.00. i think its the bottom front corner thats holdng it off and not squashing enough. shall i leave it as is or trim a little off the back along that edge? will it get better with use? i don't like slamming the door to get it shut!

When I had my bus repainted I bought expensive door seals  Same problem, to chunky and could'nt shut the doors, tried cutting and trimming them but still no good, I ended up going to GSF and getting there cheap ones, I could,nt believe how good they are and fit perfect, nice and soft and the doors close lovely

  6. thats interesting to know, did you get all your seals from them ie tail gate sliding door?

Mate - they are like that - specially the front bit. But you got the right ones. Make sure they're right into the channels, slam the door properley shut and wait a few days. Don't half shut it as you'll get nowhere - it needs to be left compressed. Even next morning will be easier. In a week or two they'll settle fine. Like this. :)

The cheap ones are usually harder and you'd be slamming forever as they split and fall to pieces.

  10. wish i had a front end like that

That was days after I painted it and weeks before I sold it. :( Had it for 10+ years.
Same van before it got new bits. See the door's not properly shut? Cheap JK door seals (15 years ago).

So it looked great, I drove it into the ground over 10+ years, then mended it and sold it to the next lucky owner.
