I've got this for my van buts it's too shiney. :(

Any ideas to matt it nicely? It's stainless steel and I've got a few spare bits to practice on.

    Ta. :)

can you have it dipped like a painted door? Would that tarnish it?

  4. get a belt sander on it - quick pass for a 'brushed' effect
    :)

  5. Sissal mop on a drill with grey compound

  6. orbital or delta sander with fine grit paper should do it :)

Wow that's a lot of ideas!
Got to be an even finish and I want to be able to do the uneven surface of the cooker as well, so sanders are out.

Media blasting should give quite an even finish.

  11. Pee on it.

  13. Try a bit of alloy wheel cleaner?

battery acid works well will dull it off and give it a goldish finish tyr it in an unseen area first though and you can polish it bakc up if you dont like it :)

  17. Stainless steel contains chromium and oxalic acid will react with it to produce a matt finish. I've not tried it but it's used in the cutlery industry.

You can get it as wood bleach. Needs to be well diluted.
