Famous all over Europe, Welsh Rarebit is a distant cousin to cheese on toast, made with a cheese and ale sauce, and Welsh Rarebit Day celebrates this famous dish.

Nobody’s quite sure of the origin of the name, but it’s generally believed to be a jest at the expense of the early poor of Wales, who may largely have subsisted on rabbit and ale, though how this relates back to cheese on toast is unclear.

  4. My local used to make a bowl of the stuff to her secret recipe , it was gorgeous , and quite famous , people used to come in for just a crown welsh. The toaster / grill they had wasa large one that you could do both sides at once but it was horizontal so the Welsh was spread on the top of bread then put on the grill to cook the cheese secret and the bread at same time . Then you added the Worcester sauce just before the end and it soaked in bludee lovely it was too . Saw a Welsh rabbit van at car show on Sunday but after trying the tacos decided against . Enjoy your day everyone except @CollyP :D
