We all know the Playstation, the PC, the Xbox, the Gameboy, and all the other myriad examples of gaming devices out there in the world today. Gaming is a pervasive part of our culture, coloring everything from our choices in clothing to our taste in cuisine, there are even themed restaurants that are entirely dedicated to gamers and the games they love. Video Games Day is dedicated to recalling this defining part of our culture and sharing it with our fellow gamers, new and old alike. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
I was once British Champion of Commando on the ZX Spectrum - I was in Crash Magazine Favourite Arcade game was OutRun - what a soundtrack I still remember before that putting my 10ps into the games at the local chippy
Video arcades! The Pit in Harrogate Video Centre rammed on a Saturday afternoon with spotty oiks playing Nemesis, Sidearm, Afterburner, Altered Beast, the list goes on. Condensation dripping off the ceiling lika an overcrowded nightclub. The Rainbow Cafe was Ripons arcade run by Bill who had had generations of kids through his door from early pinball days. My game there was Time Pilot 84. Not a popular game but a dsmn good shot em up. I used to be a chubber at school and by the time I d wheeze my way there all the popular games were taken, so it was Time Pilot. Played it so much everyone else started taking an interest, though nobody beat, even came near my high score. Do miss the arcades, gaming at home is like drinking alone.
I’ve been a gamer my whole life, my dad was a computer programmer from the days when a computer program was a roll of card with holes punched into it. So as technology improved he would buy the new stuff to learn a new programming language and stay ahead of the curve. And I’d get to play games on them. Started with Pong on a ZX81, when I was 5. Then didn’t stop ZX Spectrum - Outrun Amstad CPC464 - Arkanoid PC’s - Doom SNES (this is when I had to buy them myself) Mario kart, Bomberman Nintendo Wii - Zelda, Mario PlayStation 1,2,3 & 4 - C&C, GTA Just last week I bought a Nintendo Switch, so my kids (and me obvs)can know the joy of vintage Mario kart and Super Mario World.
