I go for the big 9 volt ones as well, I've got a couple of big torches that run on them. Unfortunately they're not as powerful as the modern LED rechargeable torches available these days.
A long time ago I used to be most excited by finding the long life 4.5v batteries for sale, as thats what head torches ran on but I could usually only find Zinc Carbon ones which were almost useless.
