Following it back you find it in France as Bako, Germany as Bakko, and old Teutonic as Backe. All of these words mean “back”. The first bacon was known to come from the Romans, and was known as ‘Petaso’. Bacon has been a popular method of preserving meat and adding a delicious flavour to it by soaking it in a specialised brine. There were even certain breeds that were specially bred for their copious back meat, and those were the Yorkshire and Tamworth. But it wasn’t always just the back meat that was referred to as Bacon, at one time it referenced any kind of preserved pork, but that usage fell out of practice in the 17th Century. A day I wholeheartedly support.................. bacon with eggs, sausage, grits, fried bread and maple syrup or a simple bacon and egg roll with HP sauce.

I’m going off anything ‘Pig’ ... not the taste but the smell...did a Christmas ham and nearly spewed transferring from the boiling pot to the roasting Tin seem to be ok with ‘Pig’ related foods like pork pie and sausages but finding the smell of bacon etc is not very nice ....
I know, I know, I’m not pleased about it ..I love pig ..I’ll be fine , just had a bag of scratchings ( with hairs) and enjoyed them
