:hattip:to all who decided it would possibly be a bit too wet. It was. Yesterday the rain alternated between drizzle and showers all day and most of last night.

Never mind, meeting a mate in Coopers cafe for breakfast then oop Kinder we go. The sun is shining again and all is good in the world.

    Solar stuff...

I've been off hook-up now for 10 days or so with 1 x 100w panel running the fridge and the radio. No split charge connected so purely solar. It's not enough, I'm down to 11.2v. :( I need another panel and no doubt the battery will not be happy. Solar is maxing out right now at 4A so if it's a good day will recover a bit but not enough with the fridge going. I'll stay another night and hook up the mains. Interestingly the fridge hasn't defrosted.

I drove around to Edale, then up Grinds brook then take a right and climb up the waterfalls near the top. Then round to the right and back down to Edale for pints. Not far, only 3-4 miles probably but good to do another bit and see some different views. :)

Edale, Derbyshire. Up the same hill (Kinder Scout) from a different direction. It's my favourite hill, the views all around are amazing and as it has a large flat top you can go up, walk around the edge and back down in a seemingly endless variety of ways.

Sounds idyllic, we just spent the day picnicking at Ferry Meadows, very flat and very busy.

I think you and Jan would like it here at the site in Hayfield. Fabulous site, fabulous location in among beautiful countyside, sheltered, cheap camping for what it is and where it is. Pubs nearby, cycling, walking and very peaceful (no road noise etc). Hot modern showers included in site fee. :D

    Looks really lovely.
I think we all missed out there!
On the positive side, in between the raindrops that have blighted the weekend here darn sarf, me and a mate have replaced the fence that separates my garden from my neighbours so it hasn't been a wasted weekend - although I think I might have preferred to come walking.

I'd worm my way into working and living on this site if I hadn't just bought a boat, it really is that nice. :)

Saturday was a complete washout though, so anyone with a fair way to go home for stuff on Monday would have missed the best day today.

Time to think of next venue and date. Think I'll wait for suggestions on the date this time because if I do this on my own again, I may decide that I might as well just do my thing and save the typing. :)

  20. Don't give up keep plugging away, I have the same problem organising walking events for staff at school, some you win some you lose but, most importantly I do it cos I like doing it and if that means I go on my own then so be it, that said I am building up a band of willing volunteers more each time I go. Once people have done it once they do realise its quite a nice thing to do and keep coming back!

When I get my van on the road I intend to be using it as much as I can to aid my walking weekends and if I had not been in Malham this weekend with a small group of enthusiastic school children from my mountaineering and adventure club, I would have turned up at Hayfield with my tent!
