Three phase to single.

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by Geordie, Oct 12, 2018.

  1. Is it possible with a 2-3 hp motor on a normal 240volt supply without setting fire to the electrics.

  2. There’s 3 phases to single? Well, I’m married at the moment, but I have to admit, you’ve got me intrigued........

  3. 3hp is under 13amp on my little compressor, so provided you have a single phase motor to begin with its fine.

    I think.

  4. Not quite sure what you're asking?

  5. ^this. What are you trying to do, Geordster? Run a single-phase motor from a three-phase supply?

  6. I think he's asking if it's possible to wire up and run a 2-3 hp electric motor (3 phase 415v) from a 240 volt supply.

  8. Yes, with a converter but it is better to fit a single phase motor.

  9. I think he`s hotwiring from a lamp post ...

    You can run it on
2 phase but it may need a kick start, best bet is to either buy a converter or another motor

  11. Hope he’s got his Marigolds on

  12. That's what I thought but was miles off being sure. It is possible but depends what you are powering and sometimes it's cheaper and easier to swap the motor.

Tell us exactly what you're upto
