I'd guess that the asker for opinions would be more grateful to you for pointing out flaws to be aware of than not, than them buying it and finding out the hard way. Admittedly it's hard via photographs.

It's an 18k bus - is it the best 18k bus out there, original or not - probably not?

Not all American import buses are rust free - there are more non dry states than dry states, and many with a border on the sea.

This is an American Import Champagne I took a photo of a few weeks ago to drive @rickyrooo1 wild with envy.

It's a proper nail - but then it was much cheapness. I doubt it will ever be rust free though. IMG_0645.jpg

  4. I'm sure you could pick up some of those cushions or even recover , I would not let something like that take priority

  5. Plus the other had a fridge and cooker which is essential for me anyway.

  6. If your budget stretches past 15k you'll get a very good Westfalia Deluxe. Hold out for one with no welding and one that hasn't been faffed about with too much. I'd say this one isn't it. And 4 Star are well minty. Concours or not.

  7. In a nutshell you'll get a much better bus for less than the asking price...that's without seeing it.

  8. No leisure battery?
I thought all campers had 2 batteries?

    That's about it. :)
Either the paint is very poor or it's been photoshopped because the shine showed the wobbles. The pics don't look honest somehow.

Buying from a dealer is always going to carry a premium.
Buy private; save money (or get a better bus).

  11. One presumes that mileage is as indicated on the odometer but judging by the sag in the drivers seat its the second time around.....

  12. Jeez, i never want to get on the wrong side of anyone on here who actually owns an as factory low mileage mint bus.

You might want to get nigel or someone off ssvc to give you a critique on this bus too.

    ;)

I'd like to see the before pictures. If I was going to spend this kind of money I'd buy off one of those nice chaps in the states that sell through the forum. God's good in particular sources lovely vans and also seems to carry on improving them and replacing rare missing bits while he waits for a sale. One @ £10,000 done this way is going to be original paint.

    Valid points made!

Compare this one though to one of the Westies that VW Kampers restore, fully retrimmed, new interior furniture, new motor and a very thorough top to bottom and they are selling for £25k up towards £30k. Now comparing the one in Robs link to this one at £15,995, which is better value

  16. Well, i went to have a look at this today. Disappointed is an understatement.

Given the recent resto work it had four or five areas where the paint was already bubbling - don't think it was underlying rust but just poor prep - if it was just one spot i could probably live with it (but not for that money lol) but there were so many places for me it would have had to go straight back into the bodyshop.

given they'd taken out the windows for painting and refitted with new rubbers it was pretty disappointing to see that they'd re-fitted 3 windows that were broken (missing/broken catches on quarterlights and jalousies). Roof fabric was shot (holes), interior of the pop was very grubby, drivers seat was collapsed, both doors and tailgate were not fitted properly (as in they stood proud of the bodywork by around half an inch) drivers door handle inop, mising radio aerial, new seals fitted but on the drivers door and the slider they were stopping the doors from closing properly (not fitted right?).

Still, on the positive, i love the colour and it looked straight and solid - just a shame there were so many cosmetic things to have to fix on what looked like a good van.

oh, and i didn't get to have a drive or see it running as the throttle cable had snapped.

    back to searching..

    :(

If your budget stretches to that one, go and look at the one for sale on here that others have linked to earlier. That one has had love and attention to every sq mm and the people recommending it have camped with it and had a good look.

    There's a surprise eh @Joker?
    Mint my arse.

  19. Eh? I haven't seen this bus and dont recall ever describing it as mint? It looks nice on the pics I've seen (on my phone...) but I'm not affiliated with the seller and have not and never would say something was mint.

I don't know what wrong tree you're barking up but it's not one I planted!

  20. I'm with Zed go and have a drive out and look at the one on here. I had the same problems when i wanted one and ended up getting a one that had been shipped over and was with real 'patina' ;) and had the work done. All the ones i had seen were like the advert and promised the earth.

Ps I didn't find TLB until i had bought it.
