Thoughts/advice needed

  1. Happy Friday night

Okay I've seen a camper that I like the look off and hoping to go and see it over the weekend but would like some advice/thoughts.

It's a 78 Westfalia US import, been over here a couple of years I believe, 2 litre reconditioned engine fitted less than a year ago.

However, there is spots of rust on the left wheel arch. Below are some pics I have been sent by the owner. What do you think? Could it be hiding a bigger issues or can this just be a localised problem?

Also how much roughly would this cost to get fixed?

    Cheers

That needs a complete arch, if that's all it needs I would say £800 ish

  3. impossible to say to without checking properly....arch looks like a gonner....but it's not as bad as others I've seen....it won't be localised...there will be corrosion elsewhere....to what extent, there's only one way to find out.....if the guttering is shot, unless you like fettling or have a large pot of money to throw at it, i'd look elsewhere

Where's it located? Maybe someone knowledgeable may be able to go with you for a look.

  5. That front beam looks a bit crusty....Take his advice...^^^^^

  6. Hey guys

Thanks for your great advice, decided not to make a wasted long journey as the bloke had already said he wouldn't drop the price and it was already above my budget.

I'm learning something new everyday on this forum!

Sorry for not replying to you sooner, only just back in the land of the World Wide Web

  7. Keep looking @Cazmac ! There are a lot of wagged up old rotters knocking about, as buses still fetch good money, and unless you've got a good idea of what you're looking at, what looks like a minter may well turn out to be a pup....conversely, something that appears a bit scruffy could be a gem with a bit of TLC.
Best thing to do is familiarize yourself, by a bit of background reading and checking a few out in person (without necessarily intending to buy)

Back in the day, genuine bus owners would often list all the faults and minor jobs that needed doing, in some detail....few other sellers would be quite so honest....
