Made a start on adding the rear suspension.

Added the rear arms - no issues.

But, can’t find where I put the rear bushes or torsion bar covers

    A few pics for proof:

When I find the rest of the stuff I will continue to rebuild!

  2. Looking good
This is the nice part now bolting all the parts back on

  3. Thanks and agree - the best part (if you can find all the bits) is putting it back together

Great news - found the missing parts this afternoon where I thought they were but they were hidden - DOH!!

Light was starting to fade when I started to put things together plus showers and having to pick up the daughter from work and eating tea…. :(

Measured the angle of the bus then used this to work out the angle of the plates then started to put them all together.

A pic of the offside and nearside while installing:

Looked for longer bolts to assist with mounting the spring plates. But on first pass only found these which did not have threads all the way but a start.

Next was the offside - found a pair of bolts which were longer and with thread all the way so used these to pull the spring plates towards the chassis.

Once pulled enough put in the final bolts and all tightened up:

Dependant on work and the weather, will finish adding all the bits for the rear suspension then lower it down to the ground :)

After making tea, went outside to sort the spring plate on the offside which I hadn’t fitted.

Not as straightforward as the near side one but after an hour managed to get it all tightened up :)

Decided, just before the light totally failed, to mount the hub and that wasn’t to bad - pics to show all in situ:

If the weather holds out will try and do the other side and fit some old shocks I have plus wheels and perhaps lower it :)

For the first time in many year (could be 5 but who's counting…) a wheel on :)

We have touchdown - rear end totally on the floor:

Added some air as the tyres have not been touched for at least 12 years..

The shocks I have are too small, checking on web, turn out they are for a Beetle (well I did get given them) so will need to add a pair of those to the list of things still to buy ;)
Think I will probably have to move the rear springs a bit more as when the engine and gearbox are in, it will drop some more - will leave that for another day :)

Will look to get the front beam on next (if I have time).

  14. please say your cooper greasing all nuts bolts :thumbsup::hattip:

  15. Using standard grease not copper grease as was used originally so should be fine.
Will have to undo them all again to raise the bus slightly for when the engine/gearbox go in !!

Bloody hell, 4 days on the trot I have managed to update the thread!!!

With the help of my lad, managed to get the front beam installed and looking good :)

With the light fading fast, tackled adding the arms to the front hubs - offside:

    Then the nearside:

Realised with the offside brake calipers that I didn’t get bleed nipples so will get some ordered soon!!

That’s it for tonight - see if I can get these mounted to the beam tomorrow.

  17. Your going to struggle getting them on all built
    Up like that fella
It’s easier to fit the arms on there own first

  18. Was in two minds whether to build them up first or just put the arms in!
Will take your advice and put the arms on first.
    Thanks :)

  19. Big fail - bottom arm slips in no issue.
Top arm - how the hell do you get it over the protruding bit for the bump stops (not fitted) and push it back?
Tried raising it with my trolley jack and then hitting the arm with a wooden mallet but no joy :( would only go back a millimeter - is it just a case of keep on hitting it?
    Any tips/tricks appreciated.

  20. Block of wood over the end and a lump hammer to knock it home
