The Strangers Home is a pub in Bradfield just outside Manningtree in North Essex. £18 for the night for the van and an awning. About three acres of land, some with hook ups. Small shop on site selling ices, milk and bread etc. Showers and toilets all clean. The River Stour can be seen from the site and is about half a mile away in a straight line. Pub not too big but they had live bands on last night (saturday) who were pretty good doing indie covers. Doombar on tap amongst others. If you want a quieter pitch (away from the pub), pitches 25 to 31 are the ones you want. There's also a play area with bouncy castle for the kids http://www.strangershome.co.uk/?page=listing&id=152816
I love that some pubs in the UK allow (& have camping) wish more of them did here. Sleeping in a pub car park doesn't count (not that I've ever done that )
Aside from camping amongst the horses in the new forest, this was one of my favourite overnighters - decent band on in the pub, good ale and nice chilled outside in the campsite.
End of June 2012 - the river is less than a mile away so its a nice walk from the pub down to the river and then into town. If you dont want to listen to the bands or want to be in a quieter area then pitches 25-30 are the furthest away (thats where the photo above was taken from - pub is the building in the middle). I will be going again this year.
we went there today in camper to view and was well impressed nice site nice people and showers ,felt comfortable. then drove to this little site at brightlingsea
sounds good, and not far from Braintree where we are, maybe a few of us should have a campout up there

Yup! We're up for this, we'll give them a ring tomorrow and get booked in for Fri and Sat nights. Fingers crossed they're not full already.
