It's not specific fibreglass polish, its just something I had lying round. It's cleaned off with a tfr solution, then a light machine buff with a 500 compound followed by a hand polish. There are bits (the stickers) that will need redoing with a coarser compound (probably G3) but that can wait for now.
Looks like a '78 or there about's............fuel filler cap and late pattern engine lid hinges. Tony
Ok so I managed to actually find the time to put a full shift in today on the Sheldon, I’ll warn you now there’s lots of boring photos ahead! My main goal today was to finish up the roof, I think total I’ve got about 10 hours in the roof alone now. It’s was a lot worse in places than I’d hoped, there’s not a lot I can do with the scratches and cracks for now. So starting where I left off, the front section of the roof was in a right mess. After being scraped off with a wet razor blade, After 1st cut with compound Add in a little polish and buff
I never realised there was such a thing as a Sheldon hitop roof until at Camperjam one year I walked past one, saw the logo on the roof and said to the owner "Are you Sheldon?", Thinking he was Sheldon (Tony) off the JK Forum, who I was looking forward to meet at Camperjam because he grew up in the next street from me. I felt a bit of a tool I can tell you I did later meet Tony who was a top fella and we had a great Camperjam (His forum name was Sheldon as that was the area of Birmingham we grew up in).
Working around the van, in no particular order. Onto the rear, These stickers are causing me a little grief, some nice welshman has decided to cover over the union jack and has created his own flag lol The Welsh dragons hanging on in!
And then back down the final side, was really struggling to reach the middle section so it was skimmed over a little. This simply wont do now. Really wish I'd done a before overhead, has to climb up a door to get this lol I've left the last Sheldon sticker for now (in case I cant get any and need to have someone copy this one), also need to do clean some of the over spray off near the gutters but I need to treat and paint the gutters so i'll do this one thats finished. Also want to see if I can resurrect these,
This was just after a quick trial, its difficult to see but its defo cleared up a little. Next up is all the damaged wiring to sort front and back, I have some repairs to do on the dash so I think the easiest option was to just pull it out. Still undecided what to do with it but i've plenty of time to think about it. And the last job of the day, stripping the interior out. Again I'm undecided on what to do, either paint or maybe use a lamiate although that may be dificult with the lay out of the cupboards. Need to somehow make space for a fridge too.
Ok, apologies for this as it's yet another update of boring photos. I generally don't like it when people ask "what do you think of this" or "should I fit this to my van?" BUT I'm struggling and not sure on this myself. I'm still on the hunt for parts..... well let's be honest I scour eBay while I'm bored at work! So there's not a lot I can do with the van itself so I brought what I could home with me so I can try and keep things moving. So my dilemma?? I'm undecided on what to do with the interior units, there looking very grubby and dated. Now I'd love to just tear it out and rework the whole lot but time and money is against me. I'd really like to use a laminate cover on them but I don't think the layout of the cupboards would allow it. The next option was either varnish (bit old fashioned) or paint... so that'll be it then. So a few before and after, I stripped all the furniture off and gave everything a light sand, After some (well a lot) of filler, And some primer,
Then onto a topcoat, I was going to do it in cream but I have a 5ltr tin of grey paint so thought I'd do a tester to see how it looked with the blue of the van. It's difficult to see the colour as it just looks like primer! %5BIMG%5Dhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a302/89Rallye/Blue%20bay/1C39DAB0-746F-4806-9A98-34A2F8092B0A_zpskqsqutaa.jpg%5B/IMG%5D So I'm not sure to continue on with the grey or strip it off and try something different.
Tbh, I don't think there good enough to varnish so it would mean having to remake all the doors and to go that far I might as well redo the whole lot.
Never realised that the Sheldon hi-tops actually came from Sheldon ! Im sure I never saw a single one growing up living just up the road.
Do you know those jobs you start and instantly wished you hadn't! I'd pulled the dash mainly to get into the wiring but while it was out I think it would be stupid not to sort out the padded vinyl that isn't original and coming apart and starting to look a little shabby. I don't think the cover was salvageable also the dash has picked up an extra hole or two (I think I lost count at 21) down the years. The padding that had been glued on was a mare!! To remove, I'd like to take this opportunity to apologise to my neighbours for the two hours of grinding! So with the foam removed it was into the holes, Ironically I know I'm going to have to put a few holes back in but I think it's easier to start with a blank canvas. Just the centre to sort and a small dent below the glovebox hole. I've spot welded a strip across the lower of the radio hole to reinforce the edge as it was like a tin can.
Ok so slow update, I haven't had much time recently for any of the vans and the weathers really not been helping! With the last of the holes welded up on the dasboard I decided to bring it into the 21st century with a usb upgrade, Then on with some primer, Followed by some guide coat and lots and lots of sanding Till it was good enough for paint, good enough for me anyway lol Now dont blink or you'll miss it..... Still not sure about this but top coated in grey, yes I know it just looks like shiny primer! Far from perfect but quite straight for the amount of welding its had,
