  1. Another day another camper bit!!!! Still working on the frames for the seating area and made a start on the folding buddy seat behind the passenger seat, i think it will work ok but cant fully test it until ive established the height of the other seat cushions as it forms but of the double bed which is full width and should be very comfy, need to get some ply next for the seat bases backs, do you reckon 12mm will be sufficient? so heres a few pics.................

  2. That is the most over engineered buddy seat ive seen and i love it

    Top work dude

  3. Cheers Mate, four years of a toolmaking apprentiship i guess! the metal prop underneath the seat is just to hold it up for the photo, just need to finish it off with rounded corners and ply seat and back then get it upholstered and a coat of paint.

  4. Well keep the pictures coming dude as im loving the way your approaching the interior

  5. will do , just shout when you get bored,

while i'm at this stage we were thinking about an audio system, now i know nothing about speakers and amps but i would like to run the cables and house the amp etc. can anyone reccomend a link to a guide on installation, we want it to sound good but on a budget, i thik we are looking at a retro radio/cd/mp3 player in the dash with 2 speakers up front and 4 in the back and a base box with amp and anoter amp for the speakers but like i said i haven't a clue what to buy! does anyone do a kit?

    thanks

  6. Had an afternoon on the Van yesterday and Tracy finished insulating and sound deadening the panels with Sarah and i made a start on Ply boarding the floor, the side walls will be sealed off with a plastic membrane before being boarded but not before injecting wax into all those hidden cavitys to make sure. I know the arguments for and against insulation but you really could feel the difference after we had finished.

  8. Evening All, now i've got the seat frame rougthed out we removed it all from the Van and now i can finish boxing it all in and cutting the ply to fit the shapes before i paint it, i was going to hinge the locker lids but decided to keep it simple and have lift out ones. I'm trying to think of a way of having pull out brackets that will support the back rests to make up the bed, at this stage i seem to spend as much time head scratching as actually doing something!!! its slowly evolving i think.

  9. What did you use for insulation and sound deadning dude

  10. We used a Tar based sound deadening that my Brother had left over from a Beetle restoration, not sure what its called but after you heat it with a hot air gun it sticks like sh.t to a blanket. The insulation is a product from B and Q but i cant remember the name, its a thermal damp membrane for under laminate floors.

Today i managed a bit more but i think every man and his dog called in the workshop! great for a chat but slows production some what! anyway re fotted seat frames and tweaked them some more, nearly there! and i fitted new rear Wheel cylinders shoes and springs etc, another bit crossed off my list, home now for a Sunday Dinner!!!!

Hats off to you, Some impressive ironmongery skills going into this. :)

  13. Thanks for the positive comments Guys. Starting cutting up the ply for seat bases and backrests, had to modify the Buddy seat a little and decided to give it a flip down support as i wasn't keen on the strain on the bulkhead (its a big seat!) taking shape now and i got a few ideas for catches etc to hold backrest secure etc, heres where im at now............

  14. What is the silver insulation you have used ???

  15. Therma Wrap, its a foil then a bubble wrap material about 4mm thick, i read an article on a camper conversion site, i think air tec is a similar product.

  16. wow, love this thread.

its nearly there mate, your wood skills are as good as your metal skills 8)

    top work :)

  17. Cheers Mate, its been quite a job! Brakes now all plumbed in with new flexis and pipes and shoes/springs rear wheel cylinders and i overhauled a front pair of calipers from a South African bus that i got from Scott so all ready to bleed when i can get a helper. Insulated the heater pipe underneath and hopefully a test drive round the yard very soon ;D
