i bought the van from a guy in america called john who is english, i was given his name by DUBious off this site, i first saw pictures on 26th march 2011 and i had paid in full by 31st of that month, i was crapping it at this time as i had just given $7500 to a man i had never met based on a hour long meet with a guy i had also never met....this is the first picture i ever saw of her

above and below is the van on a low loader leaving san fransisco on april 4th 2011 it then went on a 400 mile drive to los angeles to be shipped to england, i could have shipped from san fran but it was cheaper to get it sent from l.a

it left the u.s.a on or around april the 15th on it's 8 week trip to felixstowe.
here it is on 26/5/11 on my transporters trailer on the start of the journey to me

after many weeks of non stop work (which luckily in hindsight now all my original posts are lost due to site server failiure i added to you tube) i got it u.k registered and mot'd, the total price in sterling by importing and transporting yourself can be dramatically reduced and from seeing on photo and paying in u.s dollar to adding the transport and taxes etc i got the van legal for £7000, i've probably spunked at least another grand on it since then but as it stands it's easy worth double what i paid.

  9. Did you specifically want a Brown bus or was there something about this one that you couldn't pass on?

From years of sun damage and non cleaning the van had bad paintwork, i bought some very agressive cutting compound called G3 which is like t-cut on speed, this was a before and after so you can see what can be done with just elbow grease, no mechanical aids were used.

You can probably see that red oxide primer is on some of the older shots, i have done a video on the removal of this and covering with a spray can for now, i am not happy with the match of the colour as it is lighter even though i had a can made to the proper v.w colour (L86Z Agate Brown) so i am going to get the colour scanned and matched from a small sample i will chip off from an area that is not on show.if you check out a picture i posted earlier you can see the primer is gone but the match is lighter.

  11. I don't remember you mentioning this bus on the old forum ;D

  12. you so should have called your bus 'marmite!'

i would never slag anyones bus but it was nice to walk round camperjam and not see another one where as i saw 100's of jaffa or blue ones - that means enough to me to say it's special, as i said, i love it and if you do too thanks, if you don't that's ok, but feel free to have a good look round if you see it and share a beer with me, we may change your mind.

  19. That's the dilemma we have, what colour to go for, because we want it to be slightly different, but unless you go all out crazy then it's pretty tricky. I still think we should do yellow and black, given she's nicknamed Bumble...

    Sorry, hijacked thread now!

  20. it's the same having a pink bus ...

    - i have just had a thought - we should one day try to recreate the starting layout of a snooker board and do an aerial photo (but may need to use jaffas for the reds?)
