  4. Nailed it! :D

Trapped fingers and toes so many times I nearly did just get the thumping stick out!

Needs to come off again to sort the frame out, plant some wood on and a latch catch thingyy and will get some better hinges. It’s not perfect but for now it’s out of the way and I’ve put wood in th’ole! Ooh vicar!

  6. *takes a bow* why thank you :)

It needs quite a bit more fettling of the frame and definitely new hinges, but for now it'll do. Having a cuppa to celebrate once my fingers have stopped throbbing :(

  9. At lest now i know that i need to plant some wood on the hinge side. where the old hinges were is so chewed up that the new screws were struggling despite me trying to pack the holes out.
    next bits;
plant length of wood on hinge side of frame after filling old hinge cut outs/holes
    3 new hinges
    door catch thing opp frame
    paint frame :)

Still need to make my tweed door curtain for the front door too so can intersperse with some sewing jobs to finish the vestibule :)

  10. That’s a damn good looking door. I spent days hand-stripping one for my mum’s understairs area (ooh Vicar!) and then she said she wanted it painted. Arrrrggh! Though it was a bit knackered.
As you say, lots of fettling needed as the frame was banana shaped. But here it is before it was ruined by layers of Dulux gloss...
The hinges. I know. But they match the ones above.

  11. yay, I like it! I love a stripped door but going to send mine to be dipped; nitromors ain't what it used to be :(

i'm not sure if it's the door or frame that's out of shape here but the rest of the house is crooked anyway so it all fits in :D

  13. bah, perfection takes time.

    apparently, i wouldn't know this is a bodge :D

  14. Rule No 1: plane the door to fit the ‘ole

  15. but the door was too narrow to begin with  s'ok, i'll be adding some to the frame which may help the screws to bite a bit better too.
    maybe.

  16. Fill the screw holes with pva then push match sticks in.
When it’s dry trim the ends off and your screws will now bite and hold.

  17. did that already; kebab sticks and wood glue. where the old hinges were on the frame is completely chewed. so new wood :)

  18. Keep up at the back ..

  19. Cut some small pieces of (oversized) softwood, PVA them in, then plane 'em flat. They'll never know...

  20. i need to plant some wood on the side anyway so going to fill old hinge recesses and chewed bits with drillable wood filler, then add put a strip of timber on to narrow the gap. eventually
