I have officially got the cheapest car I have ever owned. Say hello to the Shogun Pinin

A friend owned it for 5yrs and gave it to his brother who had just bought part of an old convent up a farmers lane. After a year he had done 800 miles and decided it was not for him so parked it under a tree.

A converstaion the other week resulted in the former keeper/brother asking if I wanted the car and I expressed it would be nice to own it but I had no spare cash to buy it. It was then that he said he was GIVING me the car free as he would rather see someone benefit from it than it sit under a tree and end up going to a scrap yard.

I am well chuffed and its like an early Christmas present.

When I got it the center display was not working and I was told it had never worked since they had owned it. Turned out it was just a 15amp fuse.

  4. Congratulations...............I had a 1987 Pajero from new in Dubai and Oman.
It was a 2.3 petrol, so too expensive to run in the UK.
Its still going strong, had to be resprayed as the paint just wore too thin!
The second owner even bought new stripe stickers to go with the new paint job.
He sold it 18 months ago, and sent me a picture of him handing over the keys, the old girl looked just the same as when I sold it in 1993.

  11. Shame to see the back of the K10, I hope it went to a good home.
There's not much left on my bucket list anymore, pretty much just a K10, a series one pre facelift Twingo and a Connie Kettle Tourer.

So today was a work on the Shogun day, drivers door window reattached to the lifters, internal courtesy light fixed. front gravel guard removed and after de-rusting it was painted.

Whilst the gravel guard was off I had a look at a section of chassis that is not visible.......... oh dear......... rust, rust, rust and holes.....

Going have to try and find a decent front chassis cross rail at a breakers and weld it in....... not what I wanted...

Common fault by all accounts, the battery is directly over the off side so when/if it overflows it runs down to the area it has corroded. One of the bottom radiator mounts has completely rusted away. The nearside is not as bad but still not good.........and I thought old VW's were rust traps

  14. It looks like thick steel..
I would think , you could cut out the rot and weld new steel in..

  15. It looks like its been parked in the sea.

Several days work and took the cross member out and cut all the rot out. In the process found that the reinforced area the tie bar attaches to within the box section was rotten as well.

Had to make a new inner section which is far thicker steel using the old one as a guide

The box section now has new steel (thicker gauge than original) across it on two sides and the inner section is welded in position after all the geometry was set/checked

and just so the MOT man can see it has been done I've decided to paint it so it stands out

A few more days and I should be back on the road again......... thankfully a friend has let me use his garage and he had lots of spare metal for me to cut up and use so as to save any expenditure and rebuild the box section.
