    Hi all,

Basically have not much knowledge of engines, and would like to know peoples opinions of what to do. I have an empty engine bay,

and i think judging by the blower fan in there its a type 4. Now does it matter what size type 4 goes back in there with regards to the cables, wires etc left hanging around?

And also what would be the best course of action, i have this -

Which looks pretty fubar, smashed piston hanging out, barrels missing etc.

Can this be traded in or is it of use to someone? And where is the best place to get a working engine that doesnt cost the earth?

  2. If u do sell the engine is be interested as want to try rebuild one keep as a spare and would replace the knackered bits any ways so if u do get rid 1st dibs bud !!

  3. Check the M plate on the heater duct under the dash...

But I can tell you now that it was a 2l type 4 with fuel injection...

  4. Its also probably got a 6 rib 901 gearbox as its a type 4 Fi 2l

  5. It would have had a 6 rib box... or it could've been an auto... but you would be missing a pedal in the cab if it was an auto ;)

  6. I have enough (used) bits for you to get that one running if you so desired.
A cheap recon is £2k, a proper job more like £3k. Something special £5k.
Depends on your budget and or skill levels.
Having said that I had neither and did a fairly good job on my 1st one. :)

You beat me to it! Its a blank canvass to do just that, especially if a 6 rib box is on that pallet :D

  10. This^^

You've got a good chunk of base engine to use, everything else that you need can be sourced

    Zed Gradually getting grumpier

Hate to say this but a Subaru engine is the price of T4 exhaust and HX's.

Getting it installed though costs £5k.

So i have started the strip down of the engine, ready to split the case now. Took these photos for reference really when putting back together. Quite a dirty engine as you will see.

Had a nightmare getting the oil pump off. But it eventually budged.

How do i open up the oil pump for inspection? or can i not do that? The engine has had a smashed piston, and not sure if it happened whilst running or not, and found bits in the strainer, so just worried that there might be damage or residue in the pump that might need to be removed, or even pump replaced worst case.

Like i said, pics are really for my reference, but they are on here as i like to show where im at in case i get stuck i can refer back when looking for advice.

If you clean the oil pump up, having removed it - there are four small nuts on the inside. Loosen and remove them and carefully pull the innards out.
This allows access to the gears, you can inspect them for signs of wear and damage!

Have you Tom Wilson 's air cooled manual by your side very good help ....I find Bentley manual imformative but annoying in the way it weaves in and out of different engine types .
