Finished off wheel bearing nearside, swapped to working on the offside bearing..

    Pitted too. And fresh rust

    20200328_135505.jpg
    And manky grease..

    20200328_135501.jpg
    And pitting.

That will learn me not.to drive it through water thats about a foot deep after Dubfreeze somewhere in a nightmare of brown water south of Lichfield.
All the underside of the bus has a light coat of mud.

Then I filled it up with 3.1 litres of finest Morris 75W/80 GL-4 fully synthetic gearbox oil. Nice using 4 bottles as if you cant empty one properly you combine the dregs in another bottle and tip that in...

I passed one Paddy wagon and one border agency van on a one and a half mile round trip.

The last time I saw Border Agency folk was when I was standing chatting in our local Indian restaurant and they raided it while I waited. A malicious and as it turned out unfounded in truth accusation of the employment of illegal immigrants made apparently by somebody from Portsmouth.
There were lots of mystery white vans parked around the area...

Not visibly but they will all be raking in the over time same as the sewage cart drivers.

Tomorrow its fix my camping table so I can fold up 2 legs and fix it to the side of the bus , as at the moment it only fits when twisted round at about 20 degrees to the rear seat.

And fix the fan in the battery charger whose bearing has dried out so it squeals the first time the fridge comes on in the morning on hookup..

  7. Put the Bug's carb back together, I had the spindle bushed to stop an air leak, hopefully. Twas interesting, the screws holding the butterfly to the spindle must be peened over to stop them coming loose. I hope I did it correctly. Then put it back on the Bug to discover one of the bolts into the manifolds wouldn't tighten, a stripped thread . This had me panicking, wondering how I could have been so careless. The I realized one bolt is 25mm long and the others are 20mm  Clearly, someone had been there before me, the extra couple of mm of thread bites fine and saves me a trip to the machine shop again, or a helicoil, or trimsert. Phew, :) at least for now, I guess it will need doing eventually.

Next the Bus, researched fuel pump relays and ran some wet and dry and another coat of paint over the headlamp bowls, where the paint was flaky last summer.

I've been putting this off for too long. I've already stripped it, just got to clean and prep the inside and paint it, then try and put it all back together.

Got the rollover jig bolted into position.
Must be the first time I've done anything to the bus since the middle of last year!

  13. Gave Tilly a little battery boost and dropped 5 litre of good fuel into her and started up like a little dream.
Will fit rear wheel cylinders later in between painting and decorating during lock down

Used it to buy fruit and veg from the local farm shop. Also 4x bags of compost.
Front wheels stayed on, no noises.
And the new gearbox oil is a lot less draggy when its cold so it didnt feel like the handbrake is on as I pulled away from the house.

Fixed the squealing fan on the battery charger/inverter.
Took 12 volt pancake fan out . Removed the sticker on the hub. Popped the little rubber bung. Dripped in some 3 in 1. Replaced..

This uses the same fixings that the cooker top hooks into.
