  1. Transmission owners! Here's a top tip! If you can't be bothered to spend a fiver in Halfords on a 17mm drain plug socket, why not just knock an oversized M10 nut into it? The nut will disappear into the plug, meaning you can't get a grip on it, and it'll expand the threads nicely, firmly jamming it in.

This means that some poor sod years later will have to spend an hour with drills, taps and a Dremel, trying to get the damn thing out. Winner !

Did you try using an M10 bolt and jacking the nut out with the bolt first?

Friday. Went to rum party at sailing club had 4 double rums.
Today went to JK open day, bought some repair panels for the sliding door. Then went to NT The Vyne on the way back. Got home changed the rear shocks on the bus. As I was packing up was called by friends who had a tyre blowout in an 03 reg New Golf leaving a Lidl store and then found that a combination of rattle gun tightened wheel bolts , chewed bolt heads and pathetic VW wheel nut spanner meant they couldnt get the wheel off. Breaker bar and a socket and a hammer from my bus tool kit worked..

  15. Fitted the cooling flaps and rod.
What a job that turned out to be.
    Couldn’t get the tinware off.
First the air filter assembly came off, followed by the dizzy and I could squeeze the left hand flap in.
Next a major struggle to get it clipped on to the two splines and on to the rod.
Finally a battle to get the tinware screwed together again.
Still got to finish it and fit the thermostat.
    Wish I’d never bothered!

Nothing .. sailed on a 93 year old racing keel boat today in our sailing club centenary regatta. Even won one race against very modern racing boats.

Slept in it, slept in it a bit more. Woke up, made coffee in it - luckily I had two litre water bottle in the cupboard as I think my water tank emptied itself.

Got home and took the water tank off and worked out that the outlet to the water pump was loose (meant to be plastic welded on). Just got in from fixing it and refitting the tank and there is a leak on the inlet because I don't think I pushed the pipe on enough
