  1. Thank you! May call him and see if he has time to do it. The original plan was to get all the stuff done in the van over winter but got let down by over promising and under delivering. Hence having to find someone else quite quickly.

Well I’ve packed it full of warm stuff and am now hoping it starts after a month or so of inactivity.
Probably should’ve done that in a different order....

    Thought about the bus.

Thought about where to go this summer.... maybe down through Croatia to Greece?

Decided to go and say hello in the garage tomorrow .

  6. Welder just called.... he’s welded up the wheel arch! He was going to leave it as a surprise until I pick Trevor up. Yay.

But apparently we need to talk about more welding that’s going to be needed. Booo

  12. Fixed my sliding door after breaking it at Brooklands New Years day meet.

For a permanent fix I'm likely to need to replace the rear lock mechanism or at least replace the pin the top rod connects too.

Fitted a new piece of plastic roof trim on Major and popped the westy roof / bedboard back on after varnishing it. The old white plastic coating had shrunk, split and was coming unglued so its been cleaned up, sanded down & had three coats of varnish. Looks okay!

  14. Picked him up and drive him home with welded roof and wheelarch. Unfortunately he’s going to need some work on offside cargo floor and while complete interior strip out, may as well strip the whole underside. *gulp* but the welder doesn’t have a workshop now. Bum.

Also going to need new engine lid, tailgate or tailgate skin, and tailgate seal as well as some bodywork bumps sorting out.

I will somehow try to get the underside stripped, ready for welding this spring so I can use him this summer.

    Anyhoo, his wheelarch repair

  16. he welded in the end. He said once the underside floor is stripped he can see if it can be glued or welded. Obvs gluing means I don’t have to take all the interior out. The underside is due a strip and under seal anyway... just not sure when I can do it :/

But at least he didn’t say it was all so bad I needed to get rid of the bus, that was my fear!

Looks good! What's the welder man's plans without a workshop? Does it sounds like he's planning to continue the work himself?

  18. I think so. He has a snap on portable welder that needs repairing and he may look into getting a lock up to store his mini. If I strip the underside here (outside) he said he could come and weld it. But that’d have to be summer. I’m going to see if by any miracle there’s any units around here maybe.

Garages and workshops are hard to come by here for some reason.

If, and it’s a big if, we have a nice spring I’d like to get it done before the summer but so many variables at the moment :(

  19. Tried to get a pic of o/s cargo floor/sill bit but it’s blurry. He had a dig around *eek* and said it’ll need doing this year.
Any advice will be gratefully received but please be gentle, it’s been a hell of a day and I love my bus, I hate seeing him so rubbish :(

Took daughter back to Bristol and visited Tyntesfield NT in the bus.
    220 miles round trip.
No problems. Was driving down M4 for long enough for temperatures to stabilise .

Under 60mph .. oil at 80 degrees C (thermostat opens at 80 deg C on air scoop oil cooler)
    60mph .. oil at 85 degrees C
    65mph .. oil at 90-95 degrees C
    68mph .. oil at 97 degrees C

There is a definite trend of a fast rise above 65mph..

Visited lane 3 on a couple of occasions..
