    Some little jobs today :

    • Fitted a locking engine lid button from Custom & Commercial
    • Wired Up the US spec front indicators for some extra
    illumination
    • Fitted some blingy chrome surrounds to the instrument cluster
to lift the rather bland commercial interior

  3. More sliding door action. You couldn't look up some exact part numbers for me, could you? Parts 49, 39A and 35 in your pic. The fiches I've seen don't seem to cover the handle with the separate lock. Also P/N for the external seal around the lock barrel. Folk sell a real mish-mash of parts. Ta.

Heritage (and others) will sell you the mystery part 32 (although looks slightly different and is held on with a spring clip). RH sliding doors only, tho'. Just seems like a cover piece for the door end of the swing-out bit: you can barely see it when it's fitted.

Will have a search but noticed that when parts are unavailable the part number is also missing.
Bear with me I'm on the case.

  6. It's the same with ETKA - if a part's NLA, the part number vanishes :(. About the only thing that doesn't is VW's "official" scan of the manual, and that doesn't show the later separate lock for some reason.

    Ah, well.

I fixed a not working windscreen washer....turned out to be a dodgy wiring connection from the live to the button on dash.
Gave allthe tubes a clean while i was investigating,

Started fitting a couple of lights inside for night reading.

Took my daughter to college in it as she had a big piece of art homework to take in, still running beautifully, thanks @mikedjames!

The windscreen wipers were struggling with that amount of rain though!

    Back on the case.
The link I gave shows the vw part numbers for the parts you listed.

    49 211-843-731 o ring
39A 211-843-711P rosette for door handle
    35 N.01152423 washer
    42? 281-843-718A O ring
and apparently 32 is no longer available whatever it was!

Unfortunately my parts book does not list the vw part numbers.
Think 32 is a red herring;)

Put it on axle stands ready to renew rear brake shoes & cylinder after brake cylinder decided to leak.
Made quite a mess .. lots of brake cleaner required!
Discovered that despite being built in Dec 1972 the replacement shoes required are what JK describe as 1970 /1971.
Still, could be worse.....Great British Bake Off on tv.

Turned the fridge on this morning and packed the bus full of clothes, pumped up the tyres, checked the oil and filled the fridge this afternoon. Leaving tomorrow morning and making our way up to Reims and on to Zeebrugge on Thursday for the overnight ferry to Hull. Stopping in the Borders Friday night then on up to Balmedie, near where Trump has one of his golf courses on Saturday. Give us a wave if you see us on the road.

Took the cover off and drove it to work and back. Still happy with the new engine. Its already down to £3 a mile extra..

  15. Removed all 3 rear right jacking points - the original was still there but well rotten, that had been covered over and then also rotted and finally there was a third mass of metal folder and welded over that!

Repaired hole in chassis, tidied up then ordered rear outriggers, top hats to replace back two and a rear chassis cross member.

    Be gone the brown velour.
When next I see my van, the nastiness will be but a distant memory. Oh happy days

I like that...great job and a nice looking engine bay.
Can I ask what sort of lights you fitted.?

  19. Keep the velour! You could make a pair of authentic 70s flares out if it. You'd be the coolest gal in...well, Fordingbridge. Possibly also Ringwood.

Ooh I dunno, Ringwood's quite big....
Plus, I'm not sure there would actually be enough velour. And I'm a tad worried about where that rip might end up :D
