    MOT’d it. PASS!!

  3. Re-stuck my vacuum gauge to the top of the dash. If I can summon the energy/enthusiasm tomorrow, I might actually connect it to the engine. Just sucking on it makes my ears hurt...

Bored with fuel hose that isnt all its cracked up to be, I splashed out on https://www.vwheritage.com/ac1278812bq-stainless-steel-braided-fuel-hose-55mm-per-metre-vw-spare

Which is really good Goodridge nitrile hose with a fabric sheath and then stainless steel braid.
It was a bit hard to fit as the braid stiffens it up but it did go over even the over 5.5mm end of the progressive carburettor.

Interesting the piece of R6 hose that I removed between the fuel pump and the carburettor had a 2013 date code. It was still perfectly supple at the carburettor end and hard and cracked on the outside where it passed the heat risers, and then just simply hard by the fuel pump - the clamp was not gripping it as well as it used to.

Because of its construction, the old hose cracked in to the fabric reinforcement which was half way through the wall and no further.
Unlike OG stuff which if it had cracked that badly would be spraying petrol.

So as they say, its the heat that does in fuel hoses more than just ethanol content.

  7. Stage one rust protection to underside - stage 2 tomorrow. All looking good under there still just a few places where the underseal had worn away and needed touching up. Going to do the whole lot with a second coating tomorrow.

I (me, myself) have done loads to the bus today, with almost NO help from Chris @Lasty

    1. I collected it from the garage after MOT pass.
    2. Drove it to Chris' lock up to buy the fridge he had for sale
    3. Removed old pop top roof headliner on my own
    4. Fabbed up a new one from material I had lying around
    5. Fitted a new engine lid seal
    6. Fitted a driver's door handle
    7. Re-greased the wiper spindles
    8. Fixed rock n roll bed
    9. Drove it home

    ok. so I did 1, 2 & 9 :)

Thanks Chris, you are a top fella. Sorry for hijacking your afternoon.

  10. And you'll find @Lasty 's rates very reasonable at £40 an hour. I believe an invoice is in the post. Prompt settlement appreciated
