So just to get this straight....she’s been abused and filmed for being outside....by people outside.

And they say Americans don’t get irony.

  2. Yes although she has broad shoulders and can rise above it..... she is not the only one in her office who has had abuse hurled at them, it has become a daily occurrence for one or another of her colleagues.... She’s a strong woman from a down to earth close knit family. She takes no prisoners & doesn’t suffer fools gladly.... She actually told me to tell you all that it doesn’t bother her and is just getting on with it, come what may, she can stick up for herself! Just one of the many reasons I married her!

If one was a nurse and seeing the results of the virus and worried about catching it and seeing what appeared to be people carrying on as if nothing was happening, after a 12 hour shift stuck in that "one subject" atmosphere, one might feel angry at the apparent hopelessness of the situation and hurl abuse at passers by. They're only humans letting of a bit of steam? People feel safe enough in cars to behave appallingly, nothing new there. The presumption that hospital staff are all selfless angels is fantasy.

Frightened and powerless against an invisible enemy?
I'm fed up with the WTF is wrong with people angle. It always means other people. Those v flicking nurses are right now probably reacting to the reaction to the reaction...still thinking their view is correct, just like everyone else.

I get that and maybe folk think its okay to vent like that, I don't know.

I do know how I would feel if someone kicked off at Michelle like that, I'd be bouncing off the walls.

What it has shown, based on the folk we have distantly passed when walking the dog is more people have asked how we are and if we are okay under the circumstances.

Who ever they are, they may be nurses, maybe not, abusing people on the street understandably elicits a "WTF is Wrong With People reaction." There is a current trend for quarantine shaming anyone who happens to be out and about, never mind that they may have legitimate reason to be out and about.

Thing is, the abusers are also basing their behaviour on "WTF is wrong with people" from their point of view. It's a vicious circle and every WTF is wrong with people thread is more negativity.

Hmmm, if what you're saying is its equally understandable for some people to have a "wtf is wrong etc" viewpoint when they see someone out and about (apols if that isn't what you are saying), then no it isn't. If some moron is shouting abuse with zero knowledge why the abusee is out and about, that is not understandable or excusable. The "wtf..etc" reaction to the abusers is totally understandable in so far as the abuse is witnessed or reported to others. Eg, Doctor walking to his job at the local hospital, moron shouts at him "wtf is wrong with you?Stay at home!", no excuses, he demonstrates he is a moron. Doctor tells a colleague about the abuse he received, colleague understandably and excusable says "wtf is wrong with people". Completely different things.

Again, my apols if that is not what you meant, but that is my reading of what you put.

Nope, that's pretty much it. :)

My view is that nobody is demonstrating they are a "moron". Your reaction is knee jerk. "abusers" "morons" etc. Most unhelpful, I'm surprised. Anyway...

Maybe consider that the "abuse" from the "morons" is simple ignorance? Ignorance means lack of info, no moronicness. I suggest anyone concerned about it get themselves a Hi Vis vest with "Essential Worker" printed on it rather than being so self-centred that they think everyone should somehow just "know" they are and cheer as they pass by.

Hmm... "essential Worker" T-shirts/Hi Vis. This time next year Rodney...

    Hi Sweenytodd.
Can i just ask, have you got a fix/plan for this situation, Does your wife drive, Can she drive your beetle to work. ooo now there's a light heart'd but difficult question to answer.
You say your dearest chooses to walk to work.
I cant see this situation changing .SO
I would just find a different way of getting to work. I no she should be able to walk were ever she wants but you no what its like these days. If she does the walk purely for exercise i would suggest you both have a walk after you both get home from work. The nights are getting lighter now.

  12. This is a lone female going to & from work at going to & from work times, practicing social distancing guidelines, not the group of teenagers cycling about for jollies or the thousands of people sunbathing in the park or the doddery old couple walking hand in hand who have never done that before all this started. All I am saying is that it makes me angry & get a grip people! If she had a uniform on people would be on their doorstep applauding her not hurling abuse or filming & threatening to ‘out’ her on youtube..... Also she’s my lovely wife & the mother of my children who I will protect until my dying breath, so yes I will say wtf is wrong with people because actually wtf IS wrong with people?

I guess this comes down to pov. My reaction is far from knee jerk (it's not knee jerk to call abusers "morons" when that is clearly what they are), but if that's how you wish to view it then fill your boots

  14. I think everyone is a Bit tetchy at the moment
Fear of the unknown is probably playing a major factor in all this nasty behaviour
We have a long way to go with this and depending on our state of mind decides how we deal with it.
It is hard but try to be nice to one another :)

Morons, unfortunately this country is full of em, @SweeneyTodd I'm with you and if it were my wife I'd be very angry might even accidentally do something about it if you get my gist:thumbsup:

  16. I wouldn’t lower myself Baz! My view is this.... If the morons are having a go at her, they are leaving someone else alone... As I’ve said Mrs ST is a strong woman & will give as good (if not better) than she gets. I just don’t understand in this time of adversity when we’re all supposed to be in it together, people feel the need to say anything at all.... I was merely pointing out that this is in fact happening & showing my disgust/contempt for the perpetrators, also adding something to the forum for discussion... Can’t please all the people all of the time I suppose

I assume for many many people it’s their first ever consideration of their own mortality....or that of those dear to them, that is winding them up.

If you fear death and someone is doing something that was so very normal just three weeks ago is now perceived as them endangering you or simply not caring...I can see why that might make you angsty.

    Can it be fixed? No.

I believe it’s one of two things that separate humans from everything else on earth....we react with survival instinct to stuff that doesn’t directly affect us e.g. we’ll drive past a field where people are sunbathing and kicking a ball about...200 yards away in our sealed cars doing 50mph and think they are selfish tw*ts. Wildebeest don’t look down on the plain where lions hunt 100s of yards away and think the ones down there are idiots or wreckless. We can reason out the knock in effect, animals don’t. Would either scenario affect the participant in each? Unlikely, but humans will carry the non direct threat for hours, days, weeks.

Some people are happy in being oblivious, others are crapping themselves about the true horror that might unfold.

They say you only start to live once you’ve died....maybe this is the wake up call humankind needs.

It’s reassuring to see the amount if introspection here...I assume it’s everywhere, when people have breathing space to properly think.

I deliver stuff for Asda and go to work with my high viz on and nobody says boo to me but I’m in my car. When all this sh1t kicked off, I could almost drive to work and while working , without even slowing for corners or roundabouts, sail through red lights etc etc if I’d wanted too because it was like a ghost town. After about a week, the amount of traffic that’s appeared back on the roads is more than noteable. I’m assuming that a lot of people have gradually become indispensable after skylarking on the government for a few days;) People reacting to some person possibly not on the indespensible list is almost understandable but it’s just an assumption . There’s some mouthy old trouts from all sorts of walks of life and getting into an argument with them is possibly not the best stance to ensure social distancing, so I think your good lady is exactly the right person for the job with an admirable attitude to boot. Please extend my apologies to your wonderful lady on behalf of all the dim wits out there and I include myself in that bunch too. I know I’ve thought to myself when working, that bloke ought to stay home, that lady should round them kids up and bugger off home etc etc.

    Ozziedog,,,,,,,,,but i dint says nuffink,, honest :)
