Be very careful @Weasel , the last few people have regretted asking for a name change.

    23. Babble - Watching, learning about buses - in between the frolics, asking lots of questions and living up to my user name - lol. And if anybody wants to help with my running issues- that would be awesome

  13. Apologies if I'm posting in the wrong thread. Should it be in the other TechEnders thread?

I thought I should explain a bit more about any help that I could gratefully receive.

"" Running Issues"" as I said in the Attendee list, is a bit vague

All service parts replaced, fuel lines, most of the vacuum pipes, S boot, cold start fuel temp sensor (probably more that I've forgotten) replaced.
so I'm kinda hoping for more on the lines of setting/tuning.

I have basic knowledge , and absolutely would enjoy getting my hands dirty and learning more.
    I'm hoping it's just a mixture / timing issue.

I have tools, timing gun, rev counter for timing (albeit a bit naff)

I've used a colour tune last october, spark was a nice blue, but now it appears to be too rich as the plugs are black and sooty,
where as before I think it was too lean - plugs too pale.
Maybe also unburnt fuel in exhaust fumes?? fumes are now alot whiter and more visible - but it could be condensation because it's so flippin cold outside ???

I did spend a small fortune at a garage last November, because I couldn't get it right (see my other posts/threads if your interested)
but I reckon I just lined their pockets without and satisfactory results to the running of the engine :(

I'm sure I read on here that someone has a gas analyser, and as he described it...."insert pipe into hole"" lol

I'd be grateful if my gases could be tested (buses not mine after curry or cider )
Bus does have the original Cat, but I'm pretty sure that it died and lost it's function many years ago.
EGR screw attachment on the EGR bend bit of exhaust has been welded up and EGR pipe to engine removed.
I know the back box is a bit grumbly, sounds like a subaru but with out all the power, lol
I have got a back box, cross over pipe at the back, cat blanking pipe - need to get gaskets and new bolts. (probably not a job for lying on your back in a field, as I reckon it'll take some serious heat to get the 40 years old crustaceans that are the original bolts off, without damaging the heat exchanger flanges.

LOL,, here I go again, living up to my user name and babbling on..........you have been warned .........expect verbal diarrhea :p

PS.... it's a 2.0 injection US spec , GD code engine.

Thank you all in advance :D:thumbsup:

Once you are running tight, you will love the FI motor, they drive really nice. Our westy is a 2.0 FI' GD code type 4, starts on the button always!

You say you have changed most of the Vacuum hoses, did you get to the little fiddly one tucked away behind the airbox that you struggle to get to?

If it helps, here is a PDF of the Bosch Fuel Injection manual:

  17. Thanks Mr Flakey  I'm a bit anxious:oops:, so it's nice to know that :D

Slight misunderstanding though, that's mostly a list of the things I've already done trying to get it running better.
The exhaust can't be done at Techenders, as the CAT blanking off pipe need to be welded to the exhaust box,
but I thought I'd mention it in case it affects using a gas analyser.

   ;):)

  20. Many thanks :thumbsup::D
Excellent PDF, that'll sort my bedtime reading tonight.

Good to hear they can and do run well. I've tried all last summer trying to sort it out.

I've replaced all of the 3mm vac hoses, not the bigger/chunkier ones - as I need to get one off to measure the inside diameter to order it.
"" did you get to the little fiddly one tucked away behind the airbox that you struggle to get to? ""
If your mean the one to the fuel pressure regulator , then yes, also deceleration valve - the awkward one behind the throttle body.
    Many many thanks ;)
