  3. Awning rail off cuts - please bring some to techenders

If anyone has any small off cuts of awning rails, please can they bring them to techenders. They will be returned

I just want to test a few shapes of rail to see what might work best with my rain gutter/devon roof combo

Im considering mounting an awning rail inside the rain gutter /on the side of the devon roof/on top of the devon roof - so I can connect a simple rain canopy

I've tried pole and clamp but the gap between roof and gutter is very uneven. Figure of eight on the rain gutter hasn't worked for me either

Id like to try all sorts of awning rail: normal, C channel etc etc

    Cheers for reading

I can’t help with the awning rail Paul, but I’ll be watching with great interest and then shamelessly copying whatever you come up with as I have exactly the same problem! I’ve got a great canopy that i love but just can’t get the flipping thing to stay attached!

  5. you may be waiting a long time!

    My options for a rail
In gutter: Pros out of sight. Cons: hard to thread beading into it, glue rather than drilling may not be strong enough, would rain still flow round rail?
On top of devon roof. Pros: out of site, very high rain cover. Cons may pull roof out of shape, very high rain cover
On side of devon roof fibreglass. Pros: easy of connectionCons: gly, not very high rain cover, may still pull roof

  6. too much thinking time today
Side or top of devon roof may not work as I want rain cover to include the passenger door, as that is where my cooker should swing out too!

Ah yes that would be an issue. I’m tending towards side of roof base myself but am being a big coward about drilling holes in case it doesn’t work!
Thinner pole that I can squeeze between the roof overhang and the gutter edge would be ideal, but it’s the end canopy fixings that I can’t work out as I’ve got one of those domed JK ones.

The amount of extra guy ropes that it took to get it to stay in place for anything more than a gentle fart was ridiculous!

  8. Have you tried altering your diet to reduce the amount of wind ?

  9.

what about a rail dropped in the gutter and held with clamps? I know what you mean about fig 8 but i still persevere with it and mostly it's fine.
didn't @sANDYbAY come up with an ingenious solution?

  11. I haven’t used my Dome canopy since it inverted due to strong winds and knocked over my Stove, and caused a nice dent in the bus
One of my memorable times at Techenders

We use a rail dropped in the gutter. the only issue with that is we cant fit a roof rack !

I think @sANDYbAY used caravan awning rail if I remember correctly, and sewed a line of beading into his canopy.
For me, and I think probably @paulcalf, the problem with rail in the gutter with clamps, is that the overhang of the roof base covers too much of the gutter to be able to get standard size rail in.
Beading and awning rail would probably work for me but I need to work on my sewing skills!
I’m going to bring my canopy to techenders anyway as I’m there for 4 nights; so if inclined, the combined brain of TLB can have a look and see what solutions spring to mind.
( I’m going to take your participation in this, and the rigging of innumerable guy ropes and general macramé, as a given @Ermintrude ;) )

  15. I've got the same issues trying to connect to the gutters, so I just put a canopy over the whole roof.
