Techenders 18 Coming off age. Cert X

Discussion in 'Mech Tech' started by dubster, Aug 11, 2011.

  1. Wanted to get this back on the forum ASAP so we can get as many of us there as possible. This weekend is 1st-4th September.

Techenders held up (or down I guess) near Luttleworth is a really worthwhile weekend, a bit of camping (I guess more than meaning for those that have been before) a lot of drinking and few people spannering too.

Its the old hands showing us newbies how to look after our vans, more details are here http://www.justkampers.com/forum2/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=167227&hilit=techenders.

I'll definitely be going along again and hope to see a few of you there too!

  2. For those of us that have never attended one of these do you just pitch up and ask around for help or do you need to let folks know what you need help with beforehand?

Quite like to attempt sorting out my gearchange but don't want to leave myself with no van.

  3. I am sure if there was something you needed to do you would find someone to help you. Probably best post on the JK forum thread and see in advance if there is a chance anyone could help you.

An engine was dropped at the last weekend with about 6 people constantly gathered round it (Ok, half were just drinking beer and offering advice watching) but it shows bigger jobs are done.

Come along anyway, its a great weekend.

  13. I went through a real rollercoaster ride of emotions at the last one, at one point thought I needed new cylinder head, then drove it home all ok without any new parts ;D ok so I pulled up on the hard shoulder to check the oil light on, but even then I got help over the phone ;)

    Ah, a tandem TechEnders thread!
Come on folks! You can go to any number of VW shows a year, TechEnders happens only twice.
    Its a laugh
    It'll save you money
    Theres a bar

    What more could you want??

  15. I was all set to come to this but ironically my engine is way too sick to make it. It took 12 litres of oil to get from Wales to Derby a week ago and the only way its leaving my drive till its fixed is behind a tow truck sadly. I am pretty sure it won't be fixed in time. Next Techenders will be a definite though as my daughter was well keen to learn how to service our bus

  17. It seems to be coming from the fan end of the crank but there is so much leaking its hard to tell. It is also wet around the petrol pump which is weird (its oil not petrol too). My main concern is that running it until the oil light coming on every 40 miles (or less), filling it up and repeating will have done damage. By the time I got home it was running really badly, struggling on hills, not wanting to rev. I am assuming the engine will need proper TLC and have swapped messages with the great Mr Pettitt who is on hols in France till the 20th but reckons he can help when he is back. Is crank oil seal an "engine in" job? If so I could have a go but don't fancy wobbling around on a trolley jack with a Type 4 perched on it on my tod much.

  19. Hi Dubious

Thanks for the kind offer. I might yet take you up on it if you are near.

Yep, Midlands it is as we are in Derby, though I am down in Cornwall at my in-laws in Truro at the minute (in the car sadly) but will have another look when I am back. I think its going to need the fan and fan housing off to tell for sure where the oil is coming from. New thread coming up!

    Cheers

  20. Derby is only 38 miles from me, so not far at all, let me know when you are back, I am sure we can work something out, there are probably a few more on here that'll join us for a diagnostic session ;D
