Tapping twin 40 IDF manifolds for servo

Need a bit of advice please. The manifolds I have with my twin 40s don't have a take off for a servo. Should I get both manifolds tapped and use the balance pipe I've got from the Solexes that I took off? Is one take off each side correct or do I need to tap all 4 inlets and connect them up? Has anyone done this?

  2. Just tap one, nearest to the hole in the chassis, for say a 13mm hose. Worth taking some time to see what the best position is for easy connection to the hose (I put mine in the wrong place :().

Should be ok drilling/tapping for say a 1/4" NPT barb, but go easy with a tap that cuts a tapered thread: easy to widen the hole out too far. There should be enough meat on the manifold for the barb to screw into, with some teflon tape around the thread.

  3. I went same as OG but TIG welded bosses on

  4. Tigging a boss on is the proper way of doing it, but needs must ;)

Think I'll get done this way too. Thank you for the advice.

Embarrassing! Just went to get the manifolds to take them to be done and found they already have bosses with 13mm pipes for the servo. must have had my eyes shut when I took them out of the box

Apart from the pipe that runs down the bus from the servo to the manifold, can anyone tell me what the other pipe (same diameter) is for that runs under the drivers seat and seems to disappear into the bodywork under the drivers door? Or is this another mega bodge I've found?

  8. Possibly the “exhaust” for the brake servo. Standard kit.

  9. Which way do they point? Outwards (recommended) or towards the front of the van?

Phew! It had me worried after finding a spark plug where the one-way valve should be! So is this servo exhaust blanked off or does it open into the bodywork?

  12. Opens into the bodywork.

  14. The servo breather originally went into the cavity of the front wheel arch

  15. Just make sure it hasn’t got an old spark plug stuck up it ;)...
