I've just reskinned my square port heat exchangers and this is what's left over. The central cores, which as you can see are oval port, are in good nick, but the skins not so, though only the top right one is really bad. I'd planned to weld them up myself until another set came along and I think they are worth saving. These are free for collection from York. They weigh 14 kg the pair if you want to fix up collection.
OK Dicky, you’ve got first dibs if you can make the arrangements. Don’t leave it too long though, I need the space. Andy
These are still kicking around in my loft if anybody wants them. You need to collect or arrange a courier. I'm in York. Good central cores, eminently reweldable skins. @Dicky @Faust @pkrboo
If your happy to pack for courier I'd like them please. I'm happy to pay for packing materials and to pick a service that suits, either collection from a location of your choosing or drop off somewhere. Drop me a PM to discuss. Cheers
At the start of the thread you mentioned reskinning them, is that easy to do? I couldn't find a thread on it - can anyone point me at one please?
What happened here was that I bought a pair of good original HX’s at a show, but unfortunately they were the wrong centres for me. I have square ports which only appeared part way through 79. I found that they are made of the central core, two layers of insulation, and the outer skins. These are attached only by means of a crimped seam, and possibly the odd spot of weld. They are quite easy to unpick and then recrimp. In the stuff I’m giving away are the central cores which are in excellent condition, and my original outer skins. They will need welding up first to fill any holes, though it’s mainly the right upper that needs doing, and in both cases there’s a gap at the back where the pipes exit to the silencer. I reckon this is where most of the heat was being wasted. I was able to refit the better skins to my old cores. It needed a series of clamps to shape them up right but not very difficult. I had to use a few spots of weld, but it was only about an hour each. My heaters are now very warm, and whoever takes these will get the same results. My preference is for somebody to turn up and take them away asap. I’m not very keen on getting involved in packing or arranging a courier which is why they are free.
