Swarfega

  1. Why has it got so expensive and what are the alternatives?

    There was a 1 litre jar in Lidl for £7.99, but mostly the likes of Halfords charge £2.50 for a little 250 ml tub.

    I used to use Vim and Fairy liquid, but Swarfega is the man.
     
  2. We used to have massive tubs in engineering workshop , you had to clean your hands with it .

    The smaller the quantities the more expensive it usually is, just buy 5litres from Halfords for £14 , it doesn’t go out of date

    Plus a barrier cream before if I remember to use it.

    A friend of mine is an engineer. I’m a teacher. We joke that you can tell when we’re on our holidays...his hands are clean and mine are filthy!

    I had some swarfega wipes in a tub a while back. I think they were good but it’s so long ago I can hardly remember....
    ....I did like the smell of them though :D

    A big scrubbing brush and loads of Sainsburys cheap handwash.

    I got a big tub of lemom smelling stuff from GSF but it has those evil plastic beads in it that go straight out to sea...

  16. What's the difference between a Technician and an Engineer, An Engineers wash their hands after they urinate.:) I remember getting almost armpit deep into a 200 litre drum of swarfega in college, I couldn't help myself.......:oops:

    As mentioned above adding a little helps .
    If out in garden I add a little sand to a small dab of swarfega and it's very effective.
    In the house add either salt or sugar . .


    What use are the thin plastic gloves you get . First off all even extra large don't fit so when I do get some on they last as long as it takes to pick a tool up then there full of holes
    Now there a waste of money

  20. I thought they’d changed swarfega & it had less grit in it these days, the last lot I bought was disappointing. I use manista now which I’d recommend, it does smell a bit of lemon though so it may be the dodgy plastic stuff that @mikedjames was talking about...
