As lots of you know, I’m absolutely bone idle and I’m always looking for anything which can make my life easier.
I’ve got a home made sunshade and it’s got a rubber profile which clips along the gutter. It’s held the sunshade securely in torrential downpours and howling gales.
I mean protection from rain is basically what a British sunshade does.
Any road up I used to get worn out wrestling with the rubber profile so I’m going to have a play with the channels they have on caravans.

On the right is the old rubber channel and on the left is the replacement 6mm beading ready for sewing onto the shade.

and this is the profile which I intend to fit underneath the poptop on my van so the sunshade is held up a little higher.

  2. If you are going to fit the channel on the top of the plinth, (as I have) it's a good idea to radius the ends, as the canvas rests on it, with the roof down.

That’s a very good point thank you, I will.
I’ve just popped the roof and had a quick look and I intend mounting the rails about two or three inches above the gutter and also putting an extension piece on the cab roof with a little gap between the pieces so the poptop can come down flush.

Also a bit more labour saving work in the van...
I used to get exhausted having to reach miles to get my coffee cup while I was driving.
Mk I of the coffee holder worked ok but occasionally the gear stick would ‘chink’ Jan’s glass as I went into 1st.
This is MkII a double level mug/glass holder which gets Jan’s glass out of the danger zone and puts my mug a nerveless hand flop away from the steering wheel.

    Dazza Eyebrow not high brow

Cup holders - get one out of a VW Lupo and fix underneath the dash - works a treat and is very neat

Had a bit of a fail with sewing the beading onto the shade so I’m going to hunt down a good seamstress I know this afternoon and see if she’ll help out.
In the meantime I made a life size cardboard model of the rails to check that they’ll fit properly underneath the poptop, which they will.

Making sure it’s level and straight.

and the almost finished sunshade which should be better because it’ll be easier to fit and also a tiny bit higher.

  9. Not wanting to pre-empt ...

It`s also been on my list for a while and i looked at the (pointless) `draught excluder` skirt rails that caravaners **spit** seem to favour inside their awnings , you know , runs around beneath the body and attatches with a rail ...

Not expensive but i seem to remember it only has fixing points on the upper side , not both sides as in the pic . @sANDYbAY has a far stronger way of attatching it .

    10/10
