Hi guys While Im still trying to find the cause of my engine being poorly idling I have found 2 intake manifolds stud theads been stripped so I thought not a big deal as I’ll be pulling the motor soon anyway but.. As Im not a big fan of heli coil I was on the hunt for some stepped studs lets say m9 to m8? well for some reasons I cant find any of that size the only avaliable I could find are m10 to m8 which are too beefy tbh..case savers seem even worse idea..what do guys recommend? I remember many moons ago I did replace the intake and exhaust studs with stepped ones no problem..but am I looking for something that not exist any more? My second question is does anyone know what means „green dot cam”? The guy I got my cam from wrote that the cam came out of 74 bus, green dot cam, good for FI or carbs”..hmm btw I always thought cam for FI is slightly different to the cam for solid lifters/carbs? but..Im confused now..btw the cam came off US bus if it matters type 4 and I got it for free only paid shipping cost..also the guy who gave it to me knows his onions and all about type 4s (engine builder)..I still suspect there’s something wrong with the timing/camshaft tho.. I’ve never heard of a green dot cam but if it’s good for FI it will be mild. FI can be solid or hydraulic lifters but the cam grind is different. Another vote for helicoils.
If your looking for non existent M9 to M8 threaded studs then talk to Tom at IIDEA Ltd in Catcliffe and he may make them exist....if you ask him nicely!
Green splash of paint has nothing to do with a cam specification, id say it is some sort of quality control check, you can find them on all sorts of mechanical bits, engine gearboxes, green, blue, pink, yellow. What you are looking for are little bands around the middle bearing:
So stripped inlet manifold studs. Have they been like it for a while? Surely contributing to an air leak between the manifold & head? Cause of poor idle perhaps.
no rings = hydraulic lifters w/ manual transmission 2 rings =- hydraulic lifters w/automatic transmission 1/2 ring = solid lifters(72-74 carb engine) 1 ring = solid lifters(75> Fuel Injected engine)
..well they were fine last year when I fitted solex’s I torqued them all down so I think I overtorqued 2 of them this time when installing dells but tbh there was no difference as it ran as poorly before.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
..yeah I’ve seen it before..does it relate to all cans stock and non stock or aftermarket ones? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
..I will go heli coil then..I helicoiled some exhaust studs before and remember something went wrong as I was swering alotcound’nt get them in place or something dont no.. Thanks anyway Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
This was an og cam This one I run now 2 litre cj code engine with manual trans Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
If you take it easy, they go in fine. Biggest risk is snapping off your 3mm drill doing the pilot hole.
..yeah I no..that’s probably why the guy I got it from, mentioned its a green dot cam just wasnt sure.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
That’s what I thought..so it can be pretty much anything..unless I measure the lift eventually.. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
