  1. Anyone else had shingles?
Keeps you awake at night so sat downstairs wrapped in blankets so my good lady can get some sleep.
Pain is stabbing in my back and side and laying down is not an option.
On Antivirus tabs plus strong pain killers
Not much fun this getting old lark

I’ve not but when we lived in Spain a friend came to visit and wasn’t feeling well and had funny spots on her head/face. We cleverly self diagnosed shingles with the aid of the internet, tho we asked the local pharmacist just in case we were completely wrong! She said yes, get her to hospital as near your eyes you can go blind. She also said pretend she is one of you, as my friend didn’t have insurance and we did! :) We did this and made our friend stay an extra week as she had a stressy job in London and wouldn’t rest back home. Apparently if you don’t rest and clear it properly you can get recurrences later on.
Hope you get better soon, take it easy and rest lots.

  5. Not nice, take it easy, mine didn't hurt but it floored me, I could have slept on a clothes line.

I had it and it was horrible. The only time that I had off work in 30 years. I feel for you :(

  7. The rash though pretty awful you can live with the pain is so widespread along the nerves is excruciating it has stopped me working and sitting downstairs from the early hours through not being able to sleep just wears you down.
Back to the docs Monday from more strong painkillers

  8. Hope the painkillers help, @Tilly. My mum used to suffer from it - was no fun at all.

  9. Take care on the pain killers, suffering is no fun, I feel for you, really do, but they have nasty side effects, particularly the stronger stuff.

  10. I got it when I was about 38. My kids had chicken pox and it triggered the dormant virus. Absolutely miserable. Couldn't sit still because of the back pain, and couldn't move around because of the discomfort of the rash. Was off work a week, longest I have ever taken.

  11. Indeed. Easy to get on, can be hard to get off.

There's a jab for shingles advertised in the doctor's surgery.....think I may have it ...shingles doesn't sound fun.

  13. Have the jab believe me it is no fun at all see the time I post this, another sleepless night

  14. Well I’m just awake as I’m the world’s crappest sleeper
    Hope you’ve nodded off now.
My mum had it and it floored her. And no one knew where it had come from. Horrible affliction but it’ll be gone soon. Chin up.
PS audiobooks are great. You can listen in the dark and they really take your mind somewhere else

  15. Is it not the chickenpox virus reappearing later in life?

  16. So we thought. But she’d never had t’Pox nor knowingly been in contact with anyone who had it.
    Don’t mess with Herpes!

  17. That's most odd.

My mum got it in her 80s, and it never really went away. Horrible.

I’ve had it and Tramadol didn’t touch it, it’s a proper Illegitimate child.

Acupuncture is the only thing that helped, I’d hugely recommend.

Smoke a bit of weed, helps with nerves and pains, so I’ve been told and seen, on the telly,etc...

  20. A couple of my friends have had shingles - not good - hope you recover soon @Tilly . A friend also had the shingles jab - but he reacted badly to it. I had chicken pox as a child - a while ago now (in the first half of the 20thC) - so sounds like it may come back!!!
