Mine did it for about 8 years , I put a hit start relay on a week before I sold and it’s been fine since :D

  9. I’ve got mine off at the moment, being rebuilt to original Bosche standard £65. That long shaft starter looks exactly the same as mine, which is for the type 4 engine. Good luck!

  10. Hope to get fixed within 8 years my one has only done it 3 times on cold engine and so far a gentle tap worked.

  12. Where do you get them redone??

  13. Perfect. Mines a 77 bay with a later type start motor with none serviceable solenoid?

This shouldn't be an issue i assume?

  14. You’d need to talk to them to get a definite answer.
Mine was the original Bosch starter. They fitted a new solenoid and pretty much new internals, even the case was painted. Also got the bush and 1 year guarantee.
I’ll fit it tomorrow if it’s not raining and see how it works. :)
