I do like to gaze at the stars of an evening and maybe spot the odd satellite. Last night I saw the latest additions to the Starlink network. I saw between 20 and 30 of them all in a line. Apparently there are 60 in the latest batch!

I really don't know how I feel about filling space with junk

We saw this over the fens last night... thought it was some sort of spooky new star formation! Turns out it's just Elon playing with satellites..

I dont think the world needs Starlink.
Its messy and likely to kick off the Kessler Syndrome.
It gets in the way of discovering asteroids that might hit us, and generates radio interference for radio astronomy.
Bad idea. Like a Tesla Truck ...

    I couldn't agree more

  12. Saw this the other night whilst fishing. I knew nothing about it and it caused a bit of confusion. One of my mates thought it might be military satellites . Another one thought it might be really high flying military aircraft. I didn’t know what to think but I was sure it wasn’t aircraft.
Googled it when I got home and discovered this. I don’t like that guy. I think he’s crazy and not in a good way. More like in a megalomaniac nazi way.

  13. Are they geostationary, or do they track across the sky?

  14. They’re electric, I think.

They are a combination of Low Earth Orbit and Medium Earth orbit.
There will be over 10000 of them...
Only one has to FU and its a mess.

To provide broadband internet worldwide.. until the Chinese take to frying each one as it crosses their border as its uncontrolled Internet.

  17. That’s a great point mike. He seems to think that because he’s got loads of money that space belongs to him and he can do whatever he likes with it.

has he actually asked us I we want 10000 of his hunks of junk orbiting over our country?

  18. The Chinese will soon have them down again...

It will be much cleaner to de-orbit via lawsuit than particle beam weapon or kinetic attack.

  20. Interesting...
