Sparrows !

Crickey they’ve been going bonkers today , kamaazee bonking ,,,,,locked together and falling on to my carport roof bonk bonk ......Sounded like they were coming thru , not just once all afternoon . Anyone else witnessed this . I’m surprised they havnt broken any thing

 

They were on the decline ,but they seam to be bouncing back/bonking back of late

 

Sparrers or dunnocks, didnt know the difference til I moved to the country

 

Na reeeel sparraz , dunnocks are more greyee

 

I commented on what’s best described as a flock of them - dozens and dozens on our driveway yesterday - feeding, never seen them do that before

 

Ours are as mad as yours Barns, the Big Gob is spending most of the day shouting his head off and bonking the mo.

That reminds me ...must order a new bed .

 

Had to weldmesh under me eaves on the dorma windows to stop them getting in.There were loads, a sparrowhawk has moved in and they are hiding out now.

 

Yep - house sparrows in our garden are the same - can hear them in the hedge squabbling - must be 10 or 20 of them

 

Have not seen many this spring, plenty of wood pigeons that poo everywhere leaving a thick black mess stool which the dog keeps treading on. Yuk

 

Starlings and a few house sparrows nest in our houses here. My neighbours have a pair of blue tits nesting in a hole in their brickwork, where an old overflow pipe went through and never sealed up. Its a good choice of nest site as they won't get predated by the local wood peckers. A few years back I had a wooden tit box predated by a wood pecker chipping a hole in the side.

This spring has seen many more birds around including a pair of Bull finches and a pair of Stock Doves coming in to feed on the last of the sunflower hearts on the ground.

Across the road and high in a group of mature oaks, a pair of Carrion Crows have made a nest, which I can see from my back garden with my spotting scope.

So all is not doom and gloom. Enjoy nature all around and the peace and quiet with little traffic and no aircraft.

 

Squirrels loads of them here and a right old racket ,like someone is trying to strangle them

All quiet today must be whacked out Heard the greater spotted wood pecker tapping away today and the tits tapping in their box , Robin doing the concert all afternoon . Havnt seen a starling in years . Seagulls were all singing where have all the chips gone , we are blinking starvin squawk squawk . Magpies are keeping away , they marmite umselves when they see me . Field mouse picked up a piece of apple peel as big as himself and came back for another it ,,,,,,,, sooo. Babies are a coming no doubt ,but magpies may reduce them if they are fast enough !. Put the hammock up in the carport , should be a larf . I may have more important things to attend too sooon ??

 

We have quite a big starling population and each spring the local magpies and carrion crows take a few fledglings. I have pair of nesting starlings under roof tiles and blackbird's nest in hedge in back garden and blue tits in the nest box, so lots going on. Talking of long tailed field mouse, they live happily under one of the sheds and enjoy the bird seed on the ground. Walked over to the woods yesterday and good to hear the chiffchaffs have arrived.

 

Iv'e not seen or heard a magpie round are house for a long time, I see more sparrowhawks these days, usually with seagulls chasing them.

 

Anyone noticed an increase in insects? The front of my van had so much splattage on it the other night I thought we had gone back to the 80's !

 

Yes migiz by the bucket load but we do have water and compost I spose , plus didn’t take so much notice back when and wasn’t so hungry
