when I was a kid growing up in London there were thousands, I can’t remember the last time I saw a sparrow so sad is it the same all over Britain

They`ve been getting scarce for a few years now . I`m no twitcher but did catch a Radio4 programme the other day and their expert was saying the same thing although i did noticed they were getting thinner on the ground a few years ago , same as you really - all part of my childhood
We have some in the attic, you can have them if you like, them and the bats are no problem, but the crows and grey squirrels are another matter, "Cash in the Attic" to hell with that I've a Zoo in mine, (I don't think there are any, wasps, bees, mice at the moment but there have been)

i leave food out every day for them me tiny call them the motley crew , i swear there is one on look out i only have to put me hand out the window aand they appear
They have returned here but not in mega numbers but Betty feeds seeds which they que up for at their set feeding times and soon let her know if the feeders are emptying . I don’t totally agree with feeding them so they become dependant ,but I think their natural feed is being killed by other tangs and pesticides ,so what is the answer . We do see a variety of birds by feeding them and they are a welcome site in the garden . They do get some bugs and ants which also are left to breed and not killed . Reading an artical about the demise of our insect life around the world is worrying especially pollinators etc. Love to see a good sparrow swarm and squabble . Ps most of ours are hedge sparrows , just a few house .
this year i had 2 sets of visitors from north african nesting under my cAR PORT swallows both with 3 chicks each 1 flew into glass on me back door and was killed
