sound deadening

  1. I am also heavily researching the materials I can use, and so far have already chosen the insulation material (bit different to most but looks great product!).

I am just working out what to use for sound deadening, and like the idea of the flashing tape solutions, but dont want something that smells....

  5. I figured that I would start with the bulk kit. It's 4sqm so will do the front doors and bulk heads and what's left will be used for cab area. Assuming that the stuff works well I may consider another pack for the rear.

I already have some closed cell foam which has foil backing, so reasonably confident of making bus quieter and better insulated.

Sometimes I spend too long planning these jobs when I should just get stuck in.
    ;D

  8. I just received my Silent Coat Vibrodamping, 1 pack is going to be enough!. The stuff is very heavy! Looks very high quality stuff though.

Quite looking forward to getting the door panels off and giving it a go! a job even I can do!

    ;D

  13. Here's a good analogy...imagine going into a room that's totally bare walls and floor...
if you add mass to the walls (ie make them heavier) they'll vibrate at a lower frequency...
if you put carpet on the floor and curtains along the walls you'll get less resonance...
sound deadening pads add mass to panels...
closed cell foam (or similar) reduces the resonance...

the aim is to prevent transmission lines for unwanted sound (drumming/wind & engine noise/radiant outside noise) reaching the interior of the vehicle...bitumen based coatings (eg.deadpan, silent coat, dynamat, noise killer, brown bread etc.) will only solve one aspect of the problem...sealing the panels/doors/tailgate internal air spaces with closed cell foam will further reduce unwanted sound.

  15. silent coat ordered (1 pack) and will call the underlay man tomorrow. :)

what did peeps use to clean the metalwork before application?
