  5. Self driving vehicles are inevitable if only because there is a lot of money to be made in it by already very wealthy people so they will ensure it happens regardless of some "collateral damage" to the plebs .

    I love the idea of a car that drives me to work while I have a snooze or watch some telly in the back, but the really sad thing is that it is also inevitable that eventually human drivers will be deemed unsafe and banned.

    We will no longer be able to enjoy our beloved vans and campers unless a retrofit auto drive system is installed, and of course by then internal combustion engines will have also long since been banned and will have to have electric conversions

    People will jump on one incident and blow it up..
    For instance that Ford's problem with the Pinto was that it had a campaign set up against it. The VW Beetle actually caught fire slightly more often in a crash...
    Judgements about the cost benefit of car safety features are quite often quietly made by manufacturers and nobody notices.
