A couple of years ago I paid quite a substantial sum to a specialist in Chester to have an electric pump installed and the fuel lines and tank breathers changed. The whiff of fuel never completely disappeared and a few months ago I decided to get the firewall out and see what the problem was. The filler neck replacement saga is on a few posts on here. Anyway, none of the breathers had been replaced and the filler neck rubber was shot. The feed between the tank and the pump was the original cloth braided hose which was leaking at the pump end - obviously the goon who should have replaced it thought it was too much hassle.... *****. I probably wouldn't have found this unless the crappy JK Chinese fuel pump hadn't failed. Interesting that a proper facet pump from demon Tweeks is only a few quid more than the JK copy. Moral of the story - check to make sure any work has been done properly and buy decent quality parts
Moral of the story is do it yourself then you know it's been done ....I prefer the rotary pumps ..the facet ones are noisy
If you could still smell petrol and the hose to the pump was still original and quite easy visible, why did you wait 2 years?
But that's not the point ... if you pay someone then they should do the work they have been paid for ... I've been done over by three VW specialists all promised and not done what they said ... you are right that the only way to be sure is to do it yourself.
It wasn't easily visible, with the location of the fuel pump the pipe was tucked up out of the way - only had a clear view once the heater pipe was out.and to be honest didn't think it could be that as all the fuel lines had been replaced by a specialist!
TBH , I think these specialists should be named and shamed aswell as informed that they have been. If th they can't do what they're being paid for, just think how long you' ve grafted yourself to pay them to do half a job, then stuff em. It looks like with VWS you don't get what you pay for.
Totally agree- didn't have time tbh... I've mounted this one on the rubber bobbins and it's substantially quieter than the one the goon fitted by using self drilling screws into the chassis leg....
I like the noise.. lets me know it's working when I override the relay to make sure carbs are full after a long stand... Not a chance of hearing it over the engine once fired up on mine... Sent from my Hudl 2 using Tapatalk
Did you get a detailed invoice for the work showing the agreed work to be carried out. whats very upsetting is the bus could have set alight with you and your family in it. Thank god you've found the problem.
I found after I questioned peoples work on quite minor things they got aggressive and/or very defensive. Either that or you make the discovery sometime after and you just have to move on.
I tend now not to use VW specialists, usually if I have something that needs doing and I don't have time then the garage in the village gets the work.
