Sliding door won't shut

  1. Hi,
I'm having problems closing my sliding door, I really have to pull it hard and push the back end in to get it to close. I can't see anything obviously wrong with the mechanism. Is there anything i can check for or may need to renew?
    Thanks again,

    Dean

  2. This is no help...but mine does the same ::) Have to close it with two hands and do a tricky little manoevre with the back end. Weirdly, I quite like it ;D

  3. 8) It's nice to know I'm not alone :)

  4. The sliding door can be adjusted - the bottom and top brackets can be adjusted by loosening the screws, moving the bracket and then tightening it up again. The bottom bracket can also be shimmed to raise the door up. The catchplate that the door hits on the b pillar when it's closed can also be adjusted up and down. If your door lines up in the hole OK when it's shut, try adjusting the catchplate, maybe it's out of alignment. The catch that the door mechanism closest to the back of the van grips can also be adjusted. Haynes manual should have a description of what can be adjusted and how.

Before you go adjusting anything, make sure everything's in working order, that the middle roller mechanism isn't worn or out of it's trough, that things are moving as they should.

  5. The sliding doors run on rollers, top and lower. They can be flatened off (like a flat spot on an F1 tyre) over many years and'll need replacing. When they get bad you get the problems you're reporting now. Might be something else, but check 'em out first.

  6. Mine used to glide shut, until I fitted a new door seal, seams a tad to fat it was one of the better ones too.
It catches at the rear of the door, so I just need to do a bum jiggle on the rear of the door to close it up.

  7. Good post, deffo worth a read!
Think I will have to print it out and do it in the garage over the winter so I can follow it step by step!

  8. :) :) Funny that!We have just come back from a camping trip and have the same problem. I have noted that if you go for a pee in the middle of the night , the door never shuts first time either when you set off for a pee ( thus annoying your wife ever more) or when you return ( totally annoying your wife and everyone within earshot ) Also if there is an admiring crowd around Adelaide the door never shuts first time.

My wife now believes Adelaide to be haunted by a capricious spirit who holds the door slightly ajar makes odd knocking noises from the front end when and occasionally makes the alarm defy logic, all when we we are very tired.

A fix is on the cards for this winter. In the meantime I am saying nice things about Adelaide in her earshot, just in case there is a spirit there. SO far it works for me!!!

One thing I do know is, take note my children! SLAMMING THE DOOR HARDER AND HARDER DOES NOT WORK
