Sky SVBN

  1. I have sky tv, broadband and calls and recently moved line rental over too. For the last 4 years I have had a steady 12mb but when I moved the line rental over sky switched me from the rented Bt equipment to sky's own. In doing so my broadband has dropped to 4mb!

BT have upgraded all the lines from the exchange to the green boxes to fibre optic in readiness for their fibre optic rollout. I'm about 30 yards from one of these boxes

I've done a lot of research and it seems many are having the same issues so I called sky today to try and get it resolved, the conclusion after 25 minutes?

"Basically sir, our equipment doesn't seem to be working properly and there is nothing I can do"

Well that sucks, "put me back on the old equipment then"

Their reply was "unfortunately we can't do that and everybody is being switched to our new equipment"

I retorted "well if you don't resolve this soon I bet your going to loose a lot of customers"

    The CSR just laughed, knowingly

Bottom line I'm stuck on a poxy 4mb till sky learn how to set up their equipment properly.

Anybody else in the same boat?

  2. I have switched over to SKY this week, we already have the TV package but wanted the telephone deal as it includes unlimited international calls so for me thats a potential big saving.........however we had to take the broadband as well, currently I get 20MB with virgin, Sky is reporting to be 6-12MB in my area, but they say this will stabilize over the next few weeks, I certainly hope so ! in the mean time I am keeping the virgin until I see what I get with Sky..........i will update it when I see the real speed.

  3. Unacceptable
I'm really lucky, got a Sky broadband deal for 30mb and it actually bounces 31mb on speedtest.net.
What equipment is the problem? Mine is coax from the green box.
    Cheers

  4. Sky have just bought their own switching gear for the exchanges so instead of renting which costs bucket loads they are running some broadcom stuff. from what I have read this new stuff has a few pre programmed profiles for the lines and you get categorised into them. The old equipment did DLM or dynamic line management which adapted real time to noise ratio and stuff.

Your incredibly lucky to get 30mb, technically I should get blazing speeds what with the whole line being fibre optic, I'm only 1.2km from the exchange as the crow flies and 2.5km via roads.

In this day and age it's about time they sort this out, loose the up to rubbish and be more honest.

I would go to Virgin but sky are the only firm not to cap your download amounts or do traffic management

  5. I am sure my DL is / was not capped by Virgin, and if it was capped, then the bar is set high as some months we have downloaded "as Cilla would say" a lorra lorra stuff ;-)

  6. I've had sky for quite a few yrs now, when I changed up to unlimited I was hittin 18 Mbps, gave them my line rental a month ago I've dropped down to 4 Mbps on a good day.
since then my line has been so unstable and crap. Every time we get or make a call it drops out. It's gettin worse.
Spoken to them they have done line test and they reckons all is ok.
Even had it plugged into the master socket and only one phone it's still crap.
Think I'm goin to have to bite the bullet and get a sky telephone man out and hope it's an external fault.

We have just switched to Sky Broadband from BT phone line and Tesco Broadband....what a difference in download speed, much faster even when two PC's and an iPhone are connected to the internet.

It was a right tadoo to change over and we initially felt we made the wrong move but now we are sorted, I'm impressed!

  9. Oops, made a mistake, my 'Sky' 30MB is Virgin...

  10. what makes matters worse is the total random disconnects all the time

  11. Mine does exactly the same random cut outs and bad line noise

  12. my results from today:

  13. be thankful, top speed at my house is 0.5!!

    completely rubbish

  14. Are you with Sky?

What package have you got? Are you on connect?

I know a fair bit about broadband now so I can advise

  15. make no difference who I go with. AOL at the mo. when they built our estate they put the wrong lines in and the nearest exchange is about 3 miles away.

  16. wow the dizzy heights of my broadband
