been up over an hour, it’s ridiculous, Ethan had a cup match so we were up early, big breakfast and lots of coffee, then was cancelled due to a bit of wind ( not mine) 3 matches in a row, blooming southern Jessie’s :(

you will have to take the family up the park for a game of footy then. Was it football? It can’t have been rugby as they don’t stop for bad weather ;)

Was football ;), good idea or we can go and see how much beach has been washed away in the storms, lost about 100ft at one part  , I’ll have a sea front property soon :D

  7. I get frustrated when I hear folks demanding dredging as the solution to flooding. It has its uses but mainly on smaller watercourses, where round here IMG_2427 (800x600).jpg the banks are regularly scraped to stop the channel blocking. On bigger rivers digging out the bed may be useful for navigation purposes, but to deepen the bed to accept more water may not help unless you're prepared to go all the way to the sea. A hole in the river bed just fills back up with water. There are no easy answers. We need to slow down the run off from the land and provide more storage.

Anyway, I thought I'd show you another pic of my garden today. Compared to the one on page 1376, the level has risen. All the water you can see is filling up Fulford Ings which is as intended.

Been out taking my dad for drives round the local country lanes near his and have had the super excitement of seeing two Barn Owls :)

We came back out later too and saw it again twice. One of those times it flew down the lanes in front of us, we then lost sight of it so I pulled over to get out and look over the hedge. I waited for two cars to pass and was about to get out when the owl took off from under the hedge about 10 ft ahead with a mouse in its claws. I wasn’t quick enough to photo it.

this photo is from earlier. Bit rubbish as on my useless phone camera. Next time I bring a proper camera.

it’s on the right about to cross the hedge

  9. It’s quite exciting seeing them out in daylight. We used to get them on the Ings in the picture above, though not for a while now. Most of the time it’s green and you can walk on it. I put up an owl box but it just got occupied by squirrels.

    It’s pretty good photo.

Ta. :) that was a screen shot of a zoom on the original shot where I was stood watching it in the field and knew it was going to cross the road in front of me. I just pointed the phone and clicked!

ive only ever seen one once in the wild in my friends farm. Today I’ve seen two in one field, another (possibly the same one) a couple of min drive away. Later I saw the one flying in front of us and then a couple of mins drive away, again possibly the same one, in a tree.

I wondered if they were out as last nights downpour had meant they couldn’t hunt last night?

Just as well it was an owl and not a Lancaster otherwise it would have never taken off!!

they are great to watch we have a pair that regularly hunt in the field behind our house.
They have become so rare that are now reportable so please let the hawk and owl trust know.

@Merlin Cat , Barn Owls are generally dusk hunters, not night hunters I believe. That’s when we saw one near us, super exciting to see these beautiful creatures in the wild

I don’t see what the fuss was all about... this will be a lovely bay when the suns out and all the rusty old campers will have to park further away and not pollute the sea air with their genny’s running all night!
